Often, operators of machines, including unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) or working machines, are forced to work in unfavorable conditions, such as high tem‐ peratures, continuously for a long period of time. This has a huge impact on their concentration, which usu‐ ally determines the success of many tasks entrusted to them. Electroencephalography (EEG) allows the study of the electrical activity of the brain. It allows the determination, for example, of whether the operator is able to focus on the realization of his tasks. The main goal of this article was to develop an algorithm for determining the state of brain activity by analyzing the EEG signal. For this purpose, methods of EEG sig‐ nal acquisition and processing were described, including EEG equipment and types and location of electrodes. Particular attention was paid to EEG signal acquisition, EEG signal artifacts, and disturbances, and elements of the adult’s correct EEG recording were described in detail. In order to develop the algorithm mentioned, basic types of brain waves were discussed, and exem‐ plary states of brain activity were recorded. The influ‐ ence of technical aspects on the recording of EEG sig‐ nals was also emphasized. Additionally, a block diagram was created which is the basis for the operation of the said algorithm. The LabVIEW environment was used to implement the created algorithm. The results of the research showing the operation of the developed EEG signal analyzer were also presented. Based on the results of the study, the EEG analyzer was able to accurately determine the condition of the examined person and could be used to study the concentration of machine operators.

Children with cerebral palsy have limitations in utilizing neural information to perform smooth movement and maintain balance during walking. This study aimed to develop a wearable sensor that tracks balance continuously and provides haptic biofeedback to its user through real-time vibration stimulus to assist patients with balance and postural control impairments such as cerebral palsy. Methods: Twelve children with cerebral palsy and 12 age-matched typically developed children used the sensor during walking at a self- -selected speed. The lower extremity joint kinematics, center of mass, and spatial-temporal parameters were recorded with Xsens MVN during “with” and “without” biofeedback conditions. Results: The sensor did not disturb healthy gait. Pearson correlation coefficient and Root Mean Square Error techniques showed that biofeedback regulated the gait parameters and trunk stability of the CP group. The extended stance percentage (without BF: 73.91% ± 10.42, with BF: 63.53% ± 2.99), step width (without BF: 0.20 m ± 0.05, with BF: 0.18 m ± 0.07), and step time (without BF: 1.55 s ± 1.07, with BF: 0.73 s ± 0.14) parameters decreased. Similarly, cadence and walking speed increased. Conclusions: Obtained results indicated that this wearable sensor can be integrated into the physical therapy and rehabilitation process of children with balance and postural control impairments to improve motor learning and balance control. The present findings contribute to a better understanding of the adaptation of innovative engineering applications with rehabilitation processes, which, in turn, could assist patients with balance impairments and facilitate their integration into society.

The article presents the results of investigations of selected factors interfering the QEEG electroencephalography performed with the Mitsar EEG 202 apparatus and the LZ-643 magnetic field strength meter. The accuracy of QEEG research depends on the occurrence of so-called artifacts, which are the source of magnetic fields occurring in the environment and disturbances in the power supply for measuring apparatus. The research was carried out in the Laboratory of Experimental Research Biofeedback of the Jan Dlugosz University in Czestochowa.

Purpose: The aim of the study is to define the impact of exercise on a treadmill on static balance and stability of posture in a group of patients after cerebral stroke rehabilitated in a late period, with an application of a treadmill with the function of visual biofeedback. Methods: The examination was carried out in a group of 46 people in a late period after ischemic cerebral stroke. The patients examined were randomly put to a group with intervention (n = 23), in which a rehabilitation programme with an application of a treadmill with the visual feedback function was realized and to a control group (n = 23). They evaluated balance in standing on both feet by means of a force plate, symmetry of load of lower limbs and dynamic balance in Up & Go test. Results: A statistically significant change of stabilometric parameters was observed only in the area of postural sways of the centre of pressure (COP). A significant improvement of the symmetry of load of lower limbs in standing ( p = 0.0266) was diagnosed in the examined group after the end of the programme. After the end of the programme no significant difference between the group with intervention and the control group as for a change of balance of the examined patients was found. Conclusions: In the examined group in the chronic period after cs no significant improvement of stabilometrically evaluated balance was obtained, but improvement of the symmetry of load of lower limbs as well as improvement of dynamic balance were observed.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of a 6-week sEMG-biofeedback-assisted pelvic floor muscle training program on pelvic floor muscle activity in young continent women. Methods: Pelvic floor muscle activity was recorded using a vaginal probe during five experimental trials. Biofeedback training was continued for 6 weeks, 3 times a week. Muscle strenghtening and endurance exercises were performed alternately. SEMG (surface electromyography) measurements were recorded on four different occasions: before training started, after the third week of training, after the sixth week of training, and one month after training ended. Results: A 6-week sEMG-biofeedback-assisted pelvic floor muscle training program significantly decreased the resting activity of the pelvic floor muscles in supine lying and standing. The ability to relax the pelvic floor muscles after a sustained 60-second contraction improved significantly after the 6-week training in both positions. SEMG-biofeedback training program did not seem to affect the activity of the pelvic floor muscles or muscle fatigue during voluntary pelvic floor muscle contractions. Conclusions: SEMG-biofeedback-assisted pelvic floor muscle training might be recommended for physiotherapists to improve the effectiveness of their relaxation techniques.

This paper presents the process of development, as well as examples of devices and systems supporting rehabilitation of the human lower extremities, developed independently over the years in many parts of the world. Particular emphasis was placed on indicating, which major groups of devices supporting kinesitherapy of the lower limbs can be distinguished, what are the important advantages and disadvantages of particular types of solutions, as well as what directions currently dominating in development of rehabilitation systems may be specified. A deeper analysis and comparison of several selected systems was also conducted, resulting in gathering the outcomes in two tables. They focused on a few features of mechanical design, especially the devices’ kinematic structures, and devices’ additional functions associated with, among others, interaction, as well as diagnosis of the limb's state and the progress of rehabilitation.

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of resonant breathing biofeedback training for reducing stress among manufacturing operators. Resonant breathing biofeedback works by teaching people to recognize their involuntary heart rate variability and to control patterns of this physiological response. Thirty-six female operators from an electronic manufacturing factory were randomly assigned as the experimental group (n = 19) and the control group (n = 17). The participants of the intervention received 5 weekly sessions of biofeedback training. Physiological stress profiles and self-perceived depression, anxiety, and stress scale (DASS) were assessed at pre- and post-intervention. Results indicated that depression, anxiety, and stress significantly decreased after the training in the experimental group; they were supported by a significant increase in physiological measures. Overall, these results support the potential application of resonant biofeedback training to reduce negative emotional symptoms among industrial workers.
