Composite polypropylene nonwovens were produced according to melt-blown technique with the addition (2 wt. %) of microcrystalline cellulose and with the addition (3 wt. %) of microbiological chitosan from filamentous fungi Absidia orchidis. Earlier research works indicated that these composite nonwovens were characterized by higher photo-degradation degree than untreated polypropylene nonwovens; especially great effect of microbiological chitosan was observed. Composite polypropylene nonwovens with cellulose and chitosan addition were analysed with reference to bio-destruction rate and filtration parameters (in multi-layer systems). Test results indicate that both modifiers improve bio-destruction degree of polypropylene nonwovens. The composite nonwoven with chitosan addition is characterized by better filtration parameters than the nonwoven with cellulose addition, hence it could be applied as a layer in multi-layer systems for air purification in high class clcan-rooms.
