Objectives: The purpose of this article is to present biological weapon in the process of reducing the structural power of a state. This article answers the following questions: What is the structural power and national economy? What is human capital and agriculture? What is the biological weapon and what is its effectiveness? How does the biological weapon reduce the structural power of a state? Methods: Analyzing literature and documents. Results: This article states that a biological weapon is a tool for reducing a state’s international potential used by a hostile state. This is the main reason why agriculture is the high-risk target for biological warfare. From the perspective of a biological weapon, a high-risk target as agriculture is human capital that is engaged in the production of goods. This sphere is essential for the national economy as well. The health and vitality of the population is crucial for effective production. All of the above gives the full scope of the country’s capabilities in the international sphere which could lead to becoming a power actor in global politics. Conclusions: From the perspective of a hostile state, the structural power of the targeted state cannot be reached. At this point, it can be stated that a state's structural power can be limited by reducing its relational power (reduction of international power through reduction of production/agriculture). Due to the wide spectrum of potential biological hazards a biological weapon can easily meet the needs of a hostile state.

Filtering respiratory protective equipment is commonly used for protection against bioaerosols in industrial workplaces. However, the EU legislation does not specify the requirements for its antimicrobial properties. The result is that in the market there is no equipment available that would ensure complete safety of workers exposed to inhalation of harmful bioaerosols. This is particularly important in the case of equipment intended for multiple and long-term use. The aim of this study was to develop an innovative filtering half mask for the protection of respiratory tract that would have confirmed antimicrobial properties. The half mask was tested for compliance with EN 149:2001+A1:2009, and the survival rate of microorganisms in nonwovens was determined (E. coli bacteria and A. niger moulds). The reduction in the number of E. coli bacteria was 98.69% and the reduction in the number of A. niger moulds was 67.68% after 32 h of storage under conditions simulating the conditions of use of the equipment. It was found that the biocidal activity of the half mask is sufficient to ensure a significant reduction in the number of microorganisms during its long-term use in the workplace. This in turn means that continuous disinfection of respiratory protective equipment would be maintained even without employees’ intervention, which is not possible in case of standard respiratory protective equipment.

Hodowla pozwala na utrzymanie poza organizmem żywym komórek przez ponad 24 godziny. Dzięki temu możliwe jest prowadzenie badań sprawdzających wpływ innowacyjnych związków chemicznych (w tym leków) na komórki. Zaletą hodowli jest również koszt badań, który jest wielokrotnie niższy niż koszt prowadzenia eksperymentów na zwierzętach. Do tego celu niezbędne jest odpowiednio przygotowane laboratorium. W artykule przedstawiono klasyfikację bezpieczeństwa biologicznego dla takich pomieszczeń oraz stosowane w nich techniki aseptyczne. Omówiono standardowe wyposażenie laboratorium przeznaczonego do prowadzenia hodowli komórek.

Cells kept in cultures are able to stay alive out of the organism for over 24 hours. Thus the influence of new medicines and chemicals on the cells is possible to test. Costs of such investigations is much lower than costs of experiments on animals. For this purpose well prepared and equipped laboratory is needed. In the paper biological safety classification of such laboratories and used aseptic techniques are presented. Standard equipment of laboratories for cell cultures is described.
