The obtained results of the investigations of influences of the selected technological factors on the bench life (work time) of moulding and core sands with chemical binders are presented in the hereby paper. The bench life assessment is performed by the new, author’s method with the application of the ultrasound technique. This method was patented by the author. The influence of such factors as: matrix (surroundings) temperature, matrix water content, ratio of binding components hardener/binder (h/b) and the reclamation – on the bench life of furan moulding sands was determined. The empirical dependencies (regressions) were determined, which allowed forecasting the bench life (BL) of moulding sands as functions: BL = f(W%), BL = f(T) for the fresh and after the reclamation sands, BL = f(h/b). These dependencies should be treated as examples of the new method application for investigating the bench life of moulding sands with chemical binders.

The article presents the results of investigations, which make a fragment of the broad-scale studies carried out as a part of the statutory activity on optimising the foundry sand technology using new, modified, inorganic binders. The results of investigations regarding the effect of multiple reclamation on the technological properties of foundry sands with inorganic binders were presented in a concise manner. The reclaim sand were introduced to moulding sands prepared with the new, modified, inorganic binders bonded by the chemical reaction or by blowing with gaseous CO2. Attention was focussed on the effect of multiple reclamation on the residual strength and bench life properties of moulding sands prepared with the new types of inorganic binders.

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki części prac badawczych, prowadzonych w ramach działalności statutowej dotyczącej technologii mas z nowymi, modyfikowanymi spoiwami nieorganicznymi, wiązanymi chemicznie i CO2.

The article gives the results obtained in a fragment of the studies, carried out under a statutory activity, on optimising of the foundry sand technology with new modified inorganic binders, chemically bonded and CO2 hardened. The presented results of the investigations of the self-setting sands with new inorganic binders show the character of changes in basic technological parameters in function of the time and a variable content of the binding agents, allowing also for the important - from the foundry's point of view - effect of ambient conditions, i.e. temperature and humidity, on the kinetics of the sand binding. In the case of CO2 hardened sands, special attention was paid to the phenomenon of friability of these sands, which is considered an indication of the mould and core surface quality, and as such has an important effect on the quality of final products when fabricated under the industrial conditions.

The article discusses the results of an investigation carried out on the chemically bonded and CO2 blown moulding sands using selected, modified inorganic binders. The investigations make an important part of the work conducted within the framework of a statutory activity to optimise the sand technology using new, modified, inorganic binders. The presented results of the investigation of the self-setting sands with new inorganic binders show changes in basic technological parameters in function of time and with varied content of the binding agents. The, very important for a foundry, effect of ambient conditions (temperature and humidity) on the kinetics of the binding process of the self-setting sands with these binders was discussed. In the case of sands hardened with CO2, attention was drawn to the problem of mould and core surface quality, expressed in terms of the friability, very important for the quality of castings made under industrial conditions.
