W artykule opisano architekturę i konstrukcję gotyckiej Bazyliki Mniejszej P.W. Św. Jakuba Starszego w Olsztynie, a także prace renowacyjne i zachowawcze podejmowane w trakcie 600 lat użytkowania obiektu, których celem było zachowanie kościoła w dobrym stanie technicznym. Analiza przebiegu i skuteczności podejmowanych robót remontowych może stanowić interesujące źródło informacji dla kierujących tego typu pracami ekspertów budowlanych oraz administratorów podobnych obiektów.

The paper describes the architecture and the structure of the gothic Saint Jacob Sr.'s Minor Basilica in Olsztyn (a historic monument from the first group) as well as 600 years of renovation and preservation actions aimed at maintaining the temple in a good technical condition. The history of preserving and maintaining the sanctuary includes actions that are interesting from the viewpoint of solutions concerning the construction and the materials used. The ventures that deserve a special emphasis are the following: the general overhaul of the object from the years 1886-1887, the substitution of a part of the wooden purling roof with a three-dimensional reinforced concrete frame from 1930 or the reconstruction of the severely damaged tower from the years 2000-2001. The analysis of a course and an efficiency may provide a valuable source of information for directors of the ventures of that kind, namely construction experts and administrators of similar objects.
