The authors analysed the role of the river in the city's development using the case study method. The subject of the research was the city of Głogów, situated on the Odra River. The research focused on the city-forming functions of rivers in the light of historical and contemporary analyses. The leading city-forming planes of the Odra River for Głogów and its role in the local economy were identified. The potential of the Odra River for the balanced and sustainable development of the city of Głogów and the conditions for its use have also been indicated. Rivers will play, as they have historically, a significant role in the future development of cities, which implies the need to change strategies for the development of urbanised riverine areas. This is because they are an opportunity for the sustainability of this development, and they are not sufficiently taken into account in these strategies.

Autorzy przeanalizowali rolę rzeki w rozwoju miasta, wykorzystując metodę studium przypadku. Przedmiotem badań było miasto Głogów, położone nad rzeką Odrą. Uwagę badawczą skoncentrowano na funkcjach miastotwórczych rzek w świetle analiz historycznych i współczesnych. Zidentyfikowano wiodące płaszczyzny miastotwórcze Odry dla Głogowa oraz jej rolę w lokalnej gospodarce. Wskazano również potencjał Odry dla zrównoważonego i trwałego rozwoju miasta Głogowa oraz uwarunkowania jego wykorzystania. Rzeki będą odgrywały, podobnie jak historycznie, znaczącą rolę w przyszłym rozwoju miast, co implikuje konieczność zmiany strategii rozwoju zurbanizowanych obszarów nadrzecznych. Są one bowiem szansą na zrównoważony rozwój, a nie są w tych strategiach wystarczająco uwzględniane.

Są to między innymi zasady: (1) tradycyjnej gospodarki ekstensywnej, (2) intensywnej tradycyjnej gospodarki, (3) gospodarek alternatywnych, (4) ekorozwoju, (5) Sustainable Development i (6) zrównoważonego entropijnie rozwoju. Scharakteryzowano również wybrane kryteria oceny tych zasad.

The study presents the need to implement balanced and sustainable development in the conditions of the information society, knowledge-based economy or wisdom-based economy as a synthesis of three leading paths - knowledge, wisdom, as well as balance and sustainability. The research so far shows that the implementation of this strategy most often takes place in mutual isolation, despite the merging of civilisation changes into a multidimensional system. The article points out the urgent need to combine modern civilisation's three most crucial development paths into one leading to sustainable and balanced development. System analysis and a critical examination of the literature were used. Researchers dealing with this issue often forget that the proper development of human civilisation must combine economic, social, ecological, and institutional aspects.

W opracowaniu przedstawiono konieczność realizacji zrównoważonego i trwałego rozwoju w warunkach społeczeństwa informacyjnego, gospodarki opartej na wiedzy czy gospodarki opartej na mądrości jako syntezę trzech wiodących ścieżek — wiedzy, mądrości oraz zrównoważenia i trwałości. Dotychczasowe badania pokazują, że realizacja tej strategii odbywa się najczęściej we wzajemnej izolacji, mimo łączenia się przemian cywilizacyjnych w wielowymiarowy system. W artykule wskazano na pilną konieczność połączenia trzech najważniejszych ścieżek rozwoju współczesnej cywilizacji w jedną prowadzącą do rozwoju zrównoważonego i trwałego. Wykorzystano analizę systemową oraz krytyczne ujęcie literatury. Badacze zajmujący się tą problematyką zapominają często, że właściwy rozwój ludzkiej cywilizacji musi łączyć w sobie aspekty ekonomiczne, społeczne oraz ekologiczne i instytucjonalne.

Uściśla się naukowe rozumienie treści i struktury kultury ekologicznej. Na podstawie wyników badań socjologicznych autorzy uzasadniają tezę, że poziom kultury ekologicznej zarówno ludności, jak i przedstawicieli biznesu na Ukrainie, między innymi w Krzyworoskim Regionie Przemysłowym pozostaje na niedostatecznym poziomie. Rozwijana jest myśl o konieczności doskonalenia państwowej polityki ekologicznej i wychowania ekologicznego w sferze edukacji.

The scientific understanding of the content and structure of ecological culture is specified. Based on the results of sociological research, the authors substantiate the level of environmental culture of both the population and business representatives in Ukraine, including Krivoy Rog is insufficient. It is necessary to improve the state environmental policy and environmental education.

The article presents the concept of development as the key category in the social, economic and environmental sphere. A positive assessment of changes from the point of view of a specific criterion is recognised as a constructive attribute of the definition referring to development. The interrelation between such positive value and defining the criterion in clear and concise terms becomes the decisive factor regarding relativity of this category. The general definition and core subject matter of development become the basis for establishing a homogenous terminological convention of derivative concepts, consisting most frequently in adding various prefixes to the word “development” (e.g. “eco-development”) or adjectives (e.g. durable development”) and assigning the due meaning to these new notions. Establishing the meaning substance of any paradigm of development is related to defining certain sets of principles reflecting a given system of values. The axiological system should play the role of a decisive criterion in evaluating the positive nature of changes with regard to human development, as well as to social, economic and environmental development.

It is a result of competitiveness within the theory of economics of three attitudes towards the issues of the environment and its natural resources – economization of the natural environment, ecologization of economics and sustainable development towards the economic aspects of development. This competitiveness generates numerous interesting cognitive and national problems, going beyond economic issues. All the modern disputes about the new directions of creating theoretical and utilitarian relations among economics and environment and its resources, are also visible in the assumptions of the new financial perspective of European Union in the period of 2014 – 2020.

Kształtowane i realizowane strategie pozwalają na minimalizację negatywnego wpływu ruchu turystycznego na ekosystemy oraz zakładają pozytywne oddziaływanie na społeczności lokalne z uwzględnieniem integracji a jednocześnie zachowania odrębności kulturowych. Znaczącą rolę w kształtowaniu świadomych postaw przedstawicieli tego sektora odgrywa zasada Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) nakierowana na działania proekologiczne i prospołeczne. Osiągnięcie założonych celów uwarunkowane jest partnerską współpracą przedsiębiorstw turystycznych, administracji rządowej i samorządów lokalnych. Instrumentem stanowiącym podstawę tych działań jest prawidłowa komunikacja oparta na szeroko rozumianej edukacji społecznej i ekologicznej.

Responsible tourism has an influence on the socio–economic development. Main area of its activity includes the environment, local communities, culture and resources. Shaped and implemented strategies allow to minimize the negative impact of tourism on ecosystems and assume a positive impact on local communities, taking into consideration the integration with preserving cultural differences. Significant role in shaping of the conscious attitudes of representatives of this sector plays a principle of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) aimed at pro–social and pro–ecological activities. Achieving of the planned aims is conditioned by the partnership and cooperation of tourism enterprises, government and local governments. Proper communication, based on social and environmental education, is an instrument which underlies for these actions.

Presented contemporary projects such as: Parc de Billancourt in Boulogne-Billancourt near Paris, Ecology Park and Central Park on the Greenwich Peninsula in London can be excellent examples for other, this kind of realisations in Poland. A positive trend, based on the introduction in urban areas natural elements and human values very often is against realizations, where the most important factor are economy, money etc. A return to the human values is necessary way for creating of the future humanity, also in cultural dimension.

The article discusses problems connected with the implementation of the concept of sustainable development in tourism. The first part reviews the literature connected with the concept of sustainable development. The second part discusses the theoretical assumptions of the implementation of sustainable development in tourism. Various interpretations of sustainable development in tourism are presented and compared. In the third part the author presents practical aspects of implementing sustainable development. She describes the model of conduct by the regional self-government aimed at creating outside economical benefits. She quotes examples of implementing sustainable tourism by grassroots initiatives undertaken by local communities along with the organs of government administration.

This study sets forth an implementation of the balanced development in the mining enterprises of the Południowy Koncern Węglowy S.A. through the accepted implementation program of new technologies improving the quality, safety and hygiene at work as well as through environmental actions related to reducing the amount of wastes generated in the extraction industry, deep remaking of the materials accompanying the coal mining and production to the products of practical application. The aim of the following elaboration is to present a few selected examples of various urbanistic and architectural forms in relation to the environment of human habitation. The elaboration shows housing forms as dependent on geographical, social, curtulal and economic conditions which undergo changes in space and time. It is also shown how the conditions influence contemporary housing estates and their mutual relations, as well as how social groups function in relation to the local environment of human habitation.

W chwili obecnej polski sektor energetyczny stoi przed ogromnym wyzwaniem. Musi zaspokoajać rosnący w duzym tempie popyt, podczas gdy większość aktywów służących do scentralizowanej produkcji ciepła i energii elektrycznej wymaga modernizacji. Jednocześnie wprowadzane są nowe przepisy globalne oraz unijne, mające na celu ograniczenie zmian klimatu i zabezpieczenie dostaw energii. To ogromne wyzwanie stwarza prawdziwą szanse na wykreowanie nowego zrównowazonego sektora energetycznego dla następnych pokoleń. Przy opracowywaniu koncepcji rozwoju sektora energetyki należy zwrócić uwagę na komplementarność strategii rozwoju, która powinna obejmować oszczędności energii pierwotnej, rozwój odnawialnych źródeł energii i źródeł kogeneracyjnych, promocję energii nuklearnej i technologii czystego spalania węgla z technologią wychwytu i sekwestracji CO2. W artykule próbowano zwrócić uwagę na problemy, które niewątpliwie pojawią się w najbliższym czasie w polskiej energetyce.

Currently, Polish power system faces a great challenge. It has to satisfy the increasing at high rat demand ratę, whereas most of assets for centralized heat and electric energy production require renovation. At the same time new global-scale and EU rules are being introduced. These are aimed a limitiation of climate changes and supporting energy supplies. This extreme challenge create a uniąue chance to create a new balanced electric power system for futurę generations. Whei designing the concepts of development of electric power system, attention has to be paid to comple mentarity of development strategies, which should include savings of primary energy, development o Renewable Energy Sources and co-regenerative sources, promotion of nuclear energy and tech nologies of clean coal combustion with the technologies of C02 escapement and seąuestration. In thi paper attention is paid to those issues, which will surely appear soon in polish power system.

The aim of the article is to present the development of the idea of environmental management and changes in attitude towards that problem within the framework of different systems of managing manufacturing enterprises. The article begins with short genesis of environmental management system development, main directions of changes in environmental management in manufacturing enterprises are presented afterwards and finally the idea of balanced development is mentioned. In further part of the article modern methods of manufacturing enterprise management like: lean management, agile enterprise, virtual organizations are presented, along with advantage of these concepts over traditional methods of management including environmental and macroergonomic issues.

The article contains a discussion on theoretical concepts anddefinitions of balanced development and landscape, occurring in the commonly obligatory legal rules The constitutional basis for landscape protection have been pointed out, with particular consideration for the concept of balanced development as a principle shaping the landscape. The author also concentrated on indicating the factors shaping landscape, based on the obligatory legal rules in the sphere of environment protection, and made an attempt at evaluating the influence of the above factors on rational shaping of landscape and mutual conditioning between the effective protection of the environment, rational landscape configuration and the principle of balanced development. The analysis conducted by the author and the interpretation of the legal rules provides for solutions accepted on the national and international levels. The author's considerations take into account law courts' decisions as well as literature and views of the doctrine in the range of the subject.
