Badanie zmysiu smaku jest bardzo istotnym badaniem w otolaryngologii. Umożliwia ono wykrywanie zarówno nieprawidłowości związanych z uszkodzeniem aparatu smaku, jak i schorzeń ośrodkowego układu nerwowego [1]. Celem publikacji jest przedstawienie nowego urządzenia do badań elektrogustometrycznych (polegających na tym, że pacjent reaguje na pobudzenia o różnej intensywności, przykładane na powierzchnię języka) z zaimplementowanym algorytmem automatycznego pomiaru. Urządzenie to stanowi etap przejściowy między urządzeniami, gdzie badanie jest całkowicie zależne od pacjenta i badaniami o wiele bardziej obiektywnymi. Charakteryzuje się ono dużą elastycznością doboru parametrów generowanego sygnału, a ponadto uniwersalnością interfejsu i łatwością jego modyfikacji.

The evaluation of the taste sense is an important otorhinolaryngological examination. It enables fast detection of disfunctions of human taste apparatus as well as ailments of human central nervous system. The aim of the publication is to introduce a new device for electrogustometrical examinations (the patients tongue is stimulated by the electrical stimulus of different intensities) with an algorithm of automatic measurement implemented. The device presents an intermediate level between the devices, where the measurement is completely dependent on the patients responses and though give very subjective results and the devices where the measurement is highly objective. The device is characterized by the flexibility of defining the parameters of generated measuring signals as well as the easiness of modifying the device's interface.

Authors present a few remarks that could be helpful for constructors of electrogustometers. Building the new equipment considering presented hints should facilitate the process of electrogustometrical examination both for doctor and patient. The remarks concern among other results scale, database construction, stimulating current regulation, end-point indication and shape of the electrode.

Electrogustometry is a simple and fast method of taste examination. The directcurrent monopolar stimulation was most frequently used until now. Aim of the study was to evaluate usefulness of the new method based on bipolar stimulation with impulse-current. Furtherrnore, the authors wanted to determnine taste thresholds using the equipment. 113 volunteers (53 women and 60 men) in the age of 17-50 were involved. The current-impulse electrogustometer with a bipolar electrode is useful for evaluating the taste thresholds, and is useful for precise and repeatable measurements. The range for thresholds measured on 2/3 of the anterior tongue depended on sex.
