In the paper, a concept of assessing deformation based on seismic tests is presented. The effect of strain influence on shear modulus has been emphasized and shown in soils of different types. The assessment of deformation properties on the basis of seismic tests has been illustrated by three case histories.

The spatio-temporal patterns are used for the study of the intraplate seismicity of the Pannonian basin. The earthquake occurrence is connected to the strain rate values with the use of the Kostrov(1974) equation. It is shown that in the Pannonian basin the seismic rates are l0-7-l0-6. These values were derived from the local earthquake catalogues of the area of Komarom, Dunaharaszti (near Budapest) and Kecskemet. The method used in present study is based on combination of seismological and geodetic tools and it can be used in the future for the study of the seismic conditions of areas with reduced earthquake activity.

Slovenia is situated in a region with strong earthquakes. In addition to international cooperation in CERGOP II, local measurements of recent movements are performed in Slovenia. The results of measurements of large power locations, i.e. of Coal Mine and Steam Power Station Velenje and Nuclear Power Station Krsko, are presented.
