Accuracy of reservoir capacity loss estimation on daily timescale is dependent on the certainty of sediment load prediction, density estimate and capacity observed by consecutive hydrographic surveys. Data-scarce and uncertain data conditions restrict the development of a relationship between hydrographic surveys and hydrometric observations. The present study has been carried for Ukai Reservoir, India. A novel sediment rating curve ftting approach by optimization technique has been proposed in order to accurately predict sediment load from low-frequency sampled discharge and sediment concentration observations. The study demonstrates the validation of the bulk density estimate using statistical hypothesis testing and identifes the correctness of the hydrographic survey results. Application of the developed hydrometric and hydrographic relationship indicated that about 50% of the capacity loss of a year might occur during a single extreme event. The proposed approach can serve as a decision support system to monitor and manage sedimentation for the reservoir having uncertain data conditions.

The Słupsk Bank, formerly knows as the Stolpe Bank (after the former German name Stolp of the now Polish city of Slupsk) is a bank situated 16 miles northward of Ustka, is about 24 miles long east and west and 10 miles broad. It has on the greater partof it general depths of 10 to 18 m, sand; the shoalest part is the northwestern, where there are several patches with from 8 to 9 m water, and at the western end, where there is a depth of 10 m. On the southeastern edge of the bank the water deepens suddenly to 29 and 33 m and on the other edges gradually. Because of long distance to the coast and large area, hydrographic surveys are carried out by large hydrographic vessels in 24H system. Results of hydrographic surveys of the part of Slupsk Bank have been presented.

In the close vicinity of the Westerplatte peninsula lies a unique fortification monument - the Wisłoujscie Fortress. The name Wisłoujście (the mouth of the Vistula) dates back to the time when the Vistula had its estuary north of the Wisłoujście Fortress. The site was an area of strategic importance as it gave control of ships moving into and out of Gdańsk. The Fortress is surrounded by shallow water. Hydrographic surveys are important because of navigation safety of small ships and yachts and they are difficult because of limited maneuverability of sounding vessel and limitations in positioning. Results of hydrographic surveys of Wisłoujście Fortress have been presented.

Depth measurement, as an element of hydrographic surveys, is realised in local reference system connected with a hydrographic vessel. Taking echosounder transducer's draught into consideration enables determination of the distance between water surface and the bottom. Sea level is changeable, especially in tide areas, even during hydrographic surveys. This fact created the necessity to work out many vertical reference systems. In tideless areas MSL - Mean Sea Level is generally used. Alternative for many vertical reference systems can be determination of the depth on reference ellipsoid using geopotential model of the Earth. This solution enable use of positioning systems for depth measurements and reduction of heaving.

Na przykładzie wyników badania strefy korytowej Wisły środkowej i małego zbiornika wodnego w Sierpcu podjęto próbę oceny przydatności zintegrowanego zestawu echosonda-GPS do badania procesów geodynamicznych przebiegających w tych środowiskach. Określenie charakteru i dynamiki procesów jest niezbędne przy formułowaniu prognoz geologiczno-inżynierskich.

The paper presents possibility of GIS and GPS application for hydrographic research aimed at evaluation of engineering geology conditions at two various sites representing river and lake environments. On the basis of the data collected at the middle Vistula river bad zone and small water storage reservoir in Sierpc, some efforts were undertaken aimed at evaluation of usefulness of integrated Echo Sounder GPS in tracing geodynamic processes taking place in those environments. The collecting data consists input parameters for prediction of engineering geology characteristics.
