The Department of Planetary Geodesy of the Space Research Centre PAS has been conducting research on a broad spectrum of problems within a field of global dynamics of the Earth. In this report we describe the investigations on selected subjects concerning polar motion (modeling and geophysical interpretation of the Chandler wobble, hydrological excitation of seasonal signals, search for optimal prediction methods), tectonic activity in the region of the Książ Geodynamic Laboratory of the SRC, and finally the new joint Polish-Italian project GalAc analyzing feasibility and usefulness of equipping second-generation Galileo satellites with accelerometers.

The article presents current issues and research work conducted in the Department of Geodesy and Geodetic Astronomy at the Faculty of Geodesy and Cartography at Warsaw University of Technology. It contains the most important directions of research in the fields of physical geodesy, satellite measurement techniques, GNSS meteorology, geodynamic studies, electronic measurement techniques and terrain information systems.

There were big developments of geodynamic investigations in the XX century. In the paper the scope of the chronology of developments of geodynamic investigations from the end of XIX century until the beginning of XXI century is presented. The results or seven GPS observational campaigns have demonstrated mutual approaching trend or the Magura Nappe and the Podhale Flysh. Such a trend was disturbed during the period or 1995-2001 when the dam on the Dunajec-river was constructed and artificial lake was created. A hypothesis saying that the filling or the lake resulted in temporarily driving apart the Magura Nappe and Podhale Flysh has been presumed. After 2001 the tectonic structures "started to approach each other". The control points within the Iimits or the Pieniny Klippen Belt have demonstrated oscillatory changes or coordinates in the range of ±15 mm. The results or the last observation epoch show a disturbance or above mentioned trend. It would be due to earthquake in November 2004 that happened near the test field. This hypothesis should be verified next years by the following observational campaigns.

The works carried out during the time between the Nice and Sofia Conferences have been presented. They mainly concern the forthcoming installation of the antennas of the two permanent stations, combined processing of two campaigns - BULREF'03 and BULREF'93. Results from test measurements at the selected antenna places, from the processing of the GPS data for the Balkan Peninsula stations and other specific activities related to the Work Package 10.7 (WP 10.7) have been outlined.

The undertaken work in the CERGOP-2/Environment Project [Pesec, 2002), the successor of CERGOP [Fejes et al., 1993] is shared and distributed to work packages. The work packages 10.x are formed to serve the main scientific users of the Central European GPS Geodynamic Reference Network (CEGRN) data. The work package 10.3 is devoted to integrate those geological and geophysical data that have primary importance regarding the present-day geodynamics of the Pannonian basin and its surroundings from the Adriatic microplate to the Carpathian Arc. This report is given about the works carried out between September 2003 and September 2004.

The characteristics of geodynamic investigations in the Eastern Sudetes and the Fore-Sudetic Block region during the 1993-2003 period are presented. The investigations included repeated GPS, gravimetric and other observations realized in three local research areas and a regional network. The local research networks have been integrated into the regional network through selected points. The regional network has been connected to the permanent stations network EPN/IGS. This has allowed calculation of the points' velocities in a uniform reference frame ITRF2000. The calculated movement parameters of points have been the basis for estimating the kinematics of tectonic structures including gravity changes. The results have confirmed recent activity of the young tectonic structures in research region.

Autor przedstawia w pracy rezultaty geodezyjnych badań geodynamicznych prowadzonych w Sudetach i na Bloku Przedsudeckim, bazując na powtarzanych pomiarach różnymi technikami zespolonymi w kompleksowym systemie kontrolno-pomiarowym. Obejmują one wyniki badań regionalnych w sieci GEOSUD oraz lokalnych na poligonach geodynamicznych. Scharakteryzowano zasady lokalizacji i stabilizacji punktów sieci badawczych, podano ogólne informacje dotyczące pomiarów satelitarnych GPS i innych. Zobrazowano postęp w zakresie dokładności pozycjonowania punktów z zastosowaniem obserwacji GPS w okresie 1996–2003 oraz wektory prędkości poziomych punktów sieci GEOSUD. Podjęto próbę interpretacji uzyskanych wyników w rejonie sudeckiego uskoku brzeżnego. Rezultaty badań lokalnych zaprezentowano na przykładzie trzech poligonów geodynamicznych. Stwierdzone istotne przemieszczenia punktów, którym towarzyszą również zmiany grawitacji, dotyczą szczególnie Rowu Paczkowa.

Dolina rzeki Nysy Kłodzkiej na Przedgórzu Sudeckim charakteryzuje się korzystnymi warunkami fizjograficznymi dla lokalizacji sztucznych zbiorników wodnych. Jednocześnie rów Paczkowa, przez który przepływa Nysa Kłodzka i gdzie docelowo powstanie 5 zapór wodnych, jest najbardziej aktywnym tektonicznie rejonem Polski. W 1993 w rowie Paczkowa założono poligon geodynamiczny, który umożliwia rejestrowanie informacji o stanie górotworu w pobliżu istniejących i projektowanych zbiorników wodnych. Artykuł ma na celu zaprezentowanie najnowszych danych dotyczących charakterystyki projektowanego zbiornika Kamienec oraz przedstawienie aktualnego stanu badań geodynamicznych prowadzonych w rejonie jego przyszłej lokalizacji.

Nysa Klodzka river valley on the Sudetic Foreland is characterised by morphological conditions suitable for location of man-made water reservoirs. Concurrently Paczkow Graben, through which the river flows and where altogether 5 water dams will be constructed, is the most tectonically active part of Poland. In 1993 a geodynamic research ground was set up in Paczkow Graben with the purpose of data collection regarding ground conditions in neighbourhood of existing and planned water reservoirs. The paper presents the most recent dam and reservoir characteristics in addition to current state of geodynamic investigations of the future reservoir site.
