W pracy opisano przebieg badań teoretycznych i doświadczalnych nad fosgenowaniem TDA w fazie gazowej. Ponieważ reakcja przebiega w reżimie reakcji natychmiastowych, bardzo istotne jest wymieszanie substratów. Z drugiej strony nie można dopuścić do cyrkulacji, które powodują powstawanie produktów ubocznych. Problem rozwiązano przez odpowiednie dozowanie reagentów. Do wyznaczania optymalnych warunków procesu posłużono się liczbami kryterialnymi: Re Ct, co stanowi nowatorskie rozwiązanie.

The theoretical and experimental studies on phosgenation process of TDA in the gas phase are presented in the paper. The reaction takes place in the instantaneous reaction regime, so it is very important to well mix the reac tants. On the other hand, the circulation leading to by-products formation cannot be allowed. The issue was solved by the proper dosing of reactants. The appropriate criterion numbers Re and Ct (being an innovative solution) were used to determine the optimal process conditions.

The axial mixing characteristics of a pilot-scale multi-stage mechanically-agitated gas/liquid contactor (the PROCHEM column) was investigated over a wide range of design and operating conditions. The experimental results, obtained using the dynamic response method, were analyzed using three models. The tanks in series model were identified as the one most suitable for describing the axial mixing in this type of column and a general correlation describing the effect of various design and operating conditions on the axial mixing characteristics was developed. A comparison with other multi-phase column contactors indicates that the axial mixing characteristics of this column are superior to those of unagitated bubble columns operating under similar conditions. Means for further improvement in column performance were also identified.
