W artykule opisano okoliczności powstania koncepcji i utworzenia w Polsce Krajowego Laboratorium FAMO, zajmującego się badaniami w dziedzinach fizyki atomowej, molekularnej i optycznej, oraz rozwoju tej instytucji w okresie pierwszych dwóch dekad XXI wieku.

In the article the circumstances under which an idea of creation of the national laboratory in Poland dealing with researches in the fields of atomic, molecular and optical physics (FAMO in Polish) as well as its development Turing the first two decades of the 21st century are described.

Electron-argon scattering: a high angle minimum in differential cross sections

Ab initio relativistic calculations of the high angle differential cross section minimum have been presented. Theoretical method is based on the Dirac-Hartree-Fock scattering equation. Ab initio polarization and exact exchange have been included. Calculations have been performed for the low energy elastic electron scattering from argon. A very good agreement with the recent experimental data has been found.

Numerical calculations of scattering phase shifts have been done using J-matrix method (both non-relativistic and relativistic versions). Results of computations for some simple potentials are described and discussed in this paper. In particularly, it has been shown, that successive numerical approximations converge to results obtained using an analytical formula.
