As an element of structural and material solutions, aluminium and glass façades are the mainstay of urban architecture; they are especially used in public utility buildings. The article provides a review of architectural styles and trends of the 20th century, when exterior elevations began to take the form of aluminium and glass façades. It illustrates the main architectural trends of urban architecture in the 20th century and their evolution throughout the years. Furthermore, it specifies and refers to the architecture of the 20th and 21st centuries in Kraków and presents selected public utility buildings which have become an integral part of architecture in this city.

Today it is hard to imagine a large modern city without a shopping mall. Actually mall emerged as a kind of city center for periphery residents. However, in today’s fast paced life the concept of “everything under one roof” has become an integral part of the urban structure. Mall makes it possible to meet not one but a number of needs at once. The fact that mall is analogous to city centre is confirmed not only by their functional content similarity, but also by structure. Like urban web is anchored at nodes of human activity, “shopping mall web” is anchored on nodes of retail and entertainment spaces. Like urban structures have a hierarchy of connections (from footpaths to roads), shopping mall structure has a hierarchy of social spaces (from side malls to the centre court). Despite this similarity, the socialization and communication problems in shopping malls remain unsolved. In this study the comparative analysis of urban and shopping mall structures was performed. We defined the key urban structure principles suitable for effective formation of social and public spaces of malls.

Czy zatem figury, posągi, a nawet miejskie ławki mogą zawierać w sobie nutkę artystycznego zapomnienia? Czy ich wymyślne kształty, dopieszczone pod każdym względem detale potrafią wzbudzić zachwyt, "przemycić" trochę historii, tradycji i tożsamości danego miejsca? Może tak być - i to zdaje się stanowić esencję małej architektury.

For the last decades there have been a lot of changes provided in towns, however often it has happened on the expense of their identity. This act, in extreme cases, leads to breaking up with the tradition of a place, one of the components of towns' identity. The aim of this article is to present the problems risen as a result of many years of shaping urban architecture without deeper respect for the tradition and for the context as well. They have been described on the example of one of the Polish towns, located outside of Poznań -Puszczykowo. There has been a review provided, of the phenomenon elements, which have strong influence on the character of this place, with local architecture in particular.

Zmiany zachodzące w miastach w ostatnich dziesięcioleciach nierzadko są dokonywa) kosztem ich tożsamości, co w skrajnych przypadkach prowadzi do zerwania z tradyc miejsca, elementem ściśle związanym z tożsamością miast. Celem niniejszego artykułuje wskazanie na problem powstały w wyniku wieloletniego kształtowania architektury mie skiej bez poszanowania owej tradycji, a zatem kontekstu. Rozważania ukazano na przykfc dzie jednego z wielkopolskich miasteczek - Puszczykowa. Przeprowadzono przegląd ną ważniejszych elementów wpływających na charakter tego miejsca ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem lokalnej architektury.

Bright colours and lights in big cities have always been fascinating architects. Today, modern technologies opens up new perspectives in facade colour design through light and media. The synergy between architecture and electronic media results in the new design discipline called by ag4 company "mediatecture". LED videoscreens can completely cover building facades and present colourful kaleidoscopic images that dance across the building. This technology enables the colour, light and media design of the large facade surfaces through a wide spectrum of elements: illumination, text and graphic animations in various resolutions, as well as videos. Media facades give new possibilities for the building users' companies, advertisement, for the value enhancement of the architecture and urban environment and for the integration of media, art and architecture. The medialization of a facade construction offers potential for the development of an emotional connection between the observer and the architecture. Therefore, colour become something more than just element for facade finishing - media facade colours function as extensions of architecture rather than something that merely covers the building and become new and powerful architectural design tool.

Nowy dworzec został zlokalizowany w bezpośrednim sąsiedztwie pętli tramwajowej, co pozwoliło na zintegrowanie funkcji dworca autobusowego z istniejącymi liniami tramwajowymi, a także z autobusową komunikacja podmiejską. W ten sposób, oddany 9 listopada 2007 r., dworzec autobusowy MPK stał się dogodnym punktem przesiadkowym. Inwestycja warta 15,5 mln zł została sfinansowana w 50% z funduszy strukturalnych Unii Europejskiej w ramach programu 1.6.
