Architektura antymodernizmu, będąca w opozycji do nurtu modernistycznego, odwołuje się w swoich założeniach do wartości lokalnych, związanych z fenomenem miejsca oraz jego kulturowym dziedzictwem. Antymodernistyczne idee w architekturze są wyrazem poglądów, które definiują obiekt architektoniczny w relacji do istniejącego otoczenia, czyli do realnego kontekstu urbanistycznego i kulturowego, z zachowaniem ciągłości czasoprzestrzennej i znaczeniowej relacji formy do kontekstu [14, s. 63]. Poglądy te rzadko kiedy przybierają postać ruchu artystycznego czy manifestu, mogącego mieć wpływ na powstanie określonego stylu w architekturze. Koncepcja domu w architekturze antymodernizmu jest ściśle związana z ideą miejsca zakorzenienia. Fenomen formy domu przejawia się w wykreowaniu konkretnego zdarzenia architektonicznego w harmonii z realnym miejscem fizyczno-przestrzennym i społeczno-kulturowym, a także - w aranżacji oprawy przestrzennej życia człowieka w zgodzie z jego realnymi potrzebami. Pojęcie zamieszkiwania w ujęciu antymodernizmu jest równoznaczne z przynależnością człowieka do konkretnego miejsca. Każdy element struktury domu, zgodnie z intencjami architektów antymodernizmu, przenosi symboliczne znaczenia, które są czytelne dla użytkowników w określonym kręgu kulturowym, np. fundament jako symbol zakorzenienia, ściana jako wsparcie, dach - ochrona, okno - otwartość na świat.

The architecture of antimodernism appeals to local values, connected with the phenomenon of the place (the genotype), and refers to a wider cultural context (the phenotype). Antimodernism in architecture does not assume the appearance of an artistic movement; it is only the expression of ideas of a certain group of architects; architects, who propose different architectural forms in relation to the existing spatial settings, and different context-dependent visions of architecture. In the current trend of antimodernistic architecture one can distinguish different concepts of the house: the traditional, regional, mimetic, eclectic, organic and primitive houses, placed in different contexts. The traditional house in the cultural context is a spatial pattern of the house, beyond the regional range, elaborated by a defined social group sharing common values throughout history. The regional house in the context of the cultural heritage of a place refers to the local pattern of the house, occurring in the given area. The mimetic house in the urban context of a place imitates spatial patterns existing in the close neighborhood. The eclectic house in the context of the history of architecture appeals to canons of houses, created in the whole heritage of architectural ideas. The organic house in the context of the natural environment derives inspirations from existing structures and processes of nature. The primitive house in the context of individual expression is deeply set in the basic rights of every user to self-creation in the spatial settings of his own life. The context decides about the choice of criteria of designing, shaping and evaluating the form of the house in antimodernistic architecture.
