Szczególnym i ciekawym okresem w historii polskiej architektury sakralnej jest okres przedsoborowy: 1945–1965. W tym czasie w budownictwie sakralnym starły się wątki estetyczne wielu epok. Cel badań stanowiła analiza cech stylowych, porównanie dzieł różnych autorów i interpretacje wyjaśniające różnice stylowe. Zbiór wzorców stosowanych w omawianym okresie stanowi kolejny asumpt do stworzenia architektonicznej typologii i opisu ewolucji formy przedsoborowej polskiej architektury sakralnej. Zasadniczą grupę tworzą obiekty powtarzające i naśladujące historyzujące formy, kolejną stanowią kościoły przełamujące historyczny kostium i nawiązujące do modernistycznej architektury międzywojnia. Odrębną kategorię stanowią obiekty operujące nowymi formami i dyspozycjami wnętrz, zapowiadające wyraźny krok w kierunku współczesnego modernizmu. Powojenne dwudziestolecie to zatem czas przejściowy pomiędzy tradycją a nowoczesnością, charakteryzujący się szczególnym brakiem linearności.

The pre-Conciliar period of 1945–1965 is a distinct and interesting period in the history of Polish religious architecture. During this time, aesthetic themes from many periods clashed in religious construction. The analysis of stylistic features, comparing the works of different authors and interpretations that explain stylistic differences were the objective of this study. The collection of patterns used in the period under study is another contribution to creating an architectural typology and documentation of the evolution of pre-Conciliar form and Polish religious architecture. The essential group here is formed by buildings that repeat and imitate historicizing forms, while the other consists of churches that did away with historical costume and referenced interwar Modernist architecture. Buildings that operate using new forms and interior dispositions that anticipated an important step in the direction of contemporary Modernism are a separate category. The two post-war decades were a transitional period between tradition and modernity that showed a distinct lack of linearity.
