Zawód architekta urbanisty jest w złym stanie. Przyczyny: - Brak pracy, brak treningów w poważnych tematych uniemożliwiają rozwój osobowości w szerokiej skali; - Brak świadomości przestrzennej społeczeństwa i władz; - Zła legislacja: rujnująca urbanistykę i planowanie przestrzenne jako narzędzia polityki i gospodarki przestrzennej, uniemożliwiająca gospodarowanie przestrzenią przez architekta miejskiego, uniemożliwiająca podejmowanie przez niego decyzji odpowiedzialnych (działa "w imieniu"), dopuszczająca przetargi, które powodują złą dystrybucję projektów. - Złe struktury władzy: rozbicie problematyki na szczeblu centralnym, paraliż funkcji na szczeblu wojewódzkim. - Brak skutkiem tego gospodarki i polityki przestrzennej, które są w stanie hibernacji. Objawy: - Pogłębia się rozbicie zawodu na środowiska: architektoniczne, urbanistyczne, postępuje ich separacja, narastają konflikty. - Postawa nie fair upowszechnia się. Prawo autorskie jest przez poważną część środowiska ignorowane. Szerzy się dumping, nieuczciwa konkurencja, "układy". - Istota i cel zawodu (otoczenie w stanie ładu, wysoka jakość architektury respektującej kontekst) ulegają zatarciu na rzecz "służby klientowi", przyjmującej niekiedy formy lokajstwa. - Nauka i praktyka separują się. - Krytyka i publicystyka ledwie zaznaczają swoją obecność. - Ruch umysłowy jest w stanie zaniku, dominuje chaos poglądów i niechęć do wymiany mysli. - Opinia publiczna i zawodowa nie istnieją lub są nierozszyfrowane, a przez to niezdolne do obrony istotnych wartości współczesnych. - Projekty architektoniczne są mierne, nie działają komisje architektoniczno-urbanistyczne. Wyniki konkursów sa niepewne. - Opracowania urbanistyczne powstają w większości w warunkach nieznajomości terenu. Związek autora z opracowaniem zanika z chwilą oddania pracy. Poziom opracowań jest coraz bardziej niepewny.

The state of the profession of the architect-town planner in Poland is highly unsatisfactory. The reasons for this state of affairs include: - unemployment and the absence of training in serious themes which render impossible personality development on a wider scale; - the absence of spatial consciousness among society and the authorities; - improper legislation which ruins town and spatial planning conceived as instruments of spatial policy and economy, makes it impossible for the urban architect to fulfil functions of spatial development, and to make responsible decisions (he acts "in the name of"), warding contracts by tenders causes an unsatisfactory distribution of projects; - wrong structures of authorities: the splintering of problems at the central level, a paralysis of functions on the voivodeship level; - resultant gaps in spatial policy and economy, which remain in a state of hibernation. Symptoms: - An intensified split of the profession into assorted milieus: architectonic, town planning, with progressing separation and growing conflicts. - A dissemination of the "unfair" attitude. A considerable part of the milieu ignores author's copyright. The spread of dumping, dishonest competition, and "arrangements". - The essence and purpose of the profession (the introduction of order into the surrounding, the high quality of architecture respecting the context) are becoming obliterated in favour of "serving the client", which at times assumes the form of toadying. - The separation of science and praxis. - The barely marked presence of critique and publicistics. - A waning intellectual movement and the domination of chaotic opinions and an unwillingness to exchange ideas. - Public and professional views are nonexistent or undeciphered, and hence incapable of protecting essential contemporary values. - Architectural projects are mediocre, and architectural-town planning commissions are not active. The results of competitions are uncertain. - Town planning studies are prepared predominantly without any familiarity with the terrain. The bond between the author and the project disappears the moment the latter is handed over, Finally, the level of studies is becoming increasingly questionable.
