W ostatniej dekadzie zabudowa mieszkaniowa w Krakowie rozwija się szczególnie intensywnie. Brak planów miejscowych w wielu częściach miasta powodował dotąd i nadal jeszcze nierzadko powoduje sytuację, w której tereny inwestycyjne są maksymalnie zabudowywane bez całościowej wizji dla obszaru na jakim się znajdują. Nierzadko wpływa to niekorzystnie na jakość przestrzeni publicznych, których charakterystyka staje się zaledwie wypadkową procesu zabudowy rozwijanej z niewielkim udziałem zieleni publicznej. Niniejszy artykuł prezentuje analizę przekształceń funkcjonalno-przestrzennych obszaru „Ludwinów-Mateczny” w Krakowie, zabudowywanego dotąd mimo braku planu miejscowego, atrakcyjnego nie tylko pod względem lokalizacyjnym, ale także ze względu na sąsiedztwo obszarów przyrodniczo cennych. Przedstawiono w nim wyniki badań procesu rozwoju lokalnego środowiska mieszkaniowego w okresie od ok. 2010 do 2022 roku. Badania oparto na analizach dostępnych dokumentów planistycznych, statystycznych, autorskiej analizie ilościowej zmian w strukturze przeznaczenia i użytkowania terenu, a także badaniach terenowych.

In the last decade residential development in Krakow has been particularly intensive. In consequence of many parts of the city being left without any local zoning plan, land designated for property development is developed to the maximum while the overreaching vision for the area is missing. This often has an adverse effect on the quality of public spaces, the characteristics of which is merely resultant from the development process developed with little public green space. This article presents an analysis of the functional and spatial transformation of the “Ludwinów-Mateczny” area in Krakow, which has been developed so far in spite of the lack of a local zoning plan, attractive not only in terms of its location, but also because of its proximity to valuable natural areas. It presents the results of a study of the local housing development process over the period starting approximately in 2010 and ending in 2022. The research was based on analyses of available planning and statistical documents, the author’s quantitative analysis of changes in the land designation (purpose) and use structure, as well as on the field research.

Jednym z charakterystycznych dla Krakowa surowców kamiennych jest fioletowo-różowej barwy porfir permskiego wieku. Surowiec ten stosowany był głównie jako material brukarski na nawierzchnie ulic, placów i chodników. Złoża tej skaty znajdują się w obrębie monokliny śląsko-krakowskiej w okolicy Krzeszowic, gdzie byty eksploatowane w rejonie Miękini i Zalasu od co najmniej XVIII wieku. Pozostałością tej eksploatacji są opuszczone kamieniołomy o dużej wartości dla historii górnictwa oraz o ciekawych i zróżnicowanych walorach geologicznych.

The violet-pink porphyry of the Permian age is one of the characteristic building stones of Cracow, where the rock was used mainly as a paving material in streets, squares and pavements. The deposits of this porphyry are situated within the Silesia-Cracovian monocline close to Krzeszowice, where they have been worked in the area of Miękinia and Zalas at least since the 18th century. Abandoned quarries witness to those activities; they are interesting and diversified sites for geological observations and represent objects important for the history of mining.

The beauty and a contemporary architecture are the terms of wide importance. Beauty has been creating for centuries, becomes a background for some new stylistics of next ages. A contemporary architecture is not a separate idea as well, because it involves with ancient epochs, deriving a number of experiences from them. Contemporary sacred architecture of Krakow moves among avant.garde and traditionalism, looking for a beauty as an expression of a compromise between taking a position of existing monumental works and a need of creating of a new esthetics.

The research deliberations' are concerning problems associated with city's public space formation. For whom we create modern space and who is an architecture receiver? The search for the answers of above questions is based on own design experience, connected with new space structure's implementation, with its modern aesthetics and functional demands, into existent, context defined down-town surroundings. The experience is presented on the basis of architectural conception research concerning bus station's complex with communication junction in Cracov. The plan's conception was an attempt to create optimum new public space for the city.

The work moves the problem of the proportion in the present architecture as one from determinants of the beauty. Talked over are two basic proportions occurrent in historic buildings (golden proportions and silver proportions). Analyzing several chosen resultant objects in the period of last years on the ground of Cracow, authors check whether their block, elevations or throws are subject to rules of historic proportions. The comparison of findings with opinions about objects lets on verifying of the statement about the influence them on the reception of feeling the observer.
