Architectural comparison of chosen passive building standards

The building sector consumes one-third of global final energy and emits nearly 40% of total CO2 emission. To decrease those numbers, it is necessary to design sustainable buildings, which have low heat and cooling demand. The Passive House standard was designed to meet these requirements however, some imperfections were observed. Therefore, a new approach the “be 2226” standard was put forward. This paper presents major architectural differences of those concepts and discusses their advantages and disadvantages. The main purpose is to develop guidelines how to design energy-efficient passive architecture. The Author used own mixed research method that included literature studies, analyses of technical documentation, in situ examinations, own measurements, and infrared tests. The comparison of two passive standards established strong, proven solutions, as well as incompatibilities and flows of each standard. The research main findings are that all buildings should be built in the passive manner and it would be beneficial to implement mixed standard. The main conclusion is that architectural creation has a great impact on passive solutions in buildings.

W artykule omówiono wielowątkowy i wielowymiarowy proces przygotowania projektu budowlanego, który pociąga za sobą wprowadzenie nowej formy użytkowania do istniejących struktur urbanistycznych i architektonicznych o wartości historycznej. Przeprowadzono badania dotyczące uwarunkowań formalnych i przestrzennych, związanych z prawem miejscowym w wybranych krajach europejskich. Badania wykazały, że ścisłe i dokładne, a jednocześnie powszechnie zrozumiałe zapisy prawa miejscowego, dotyczącego planowanej zabudowy na terenach objętych ochroną konserwatorską, sprzyjają klimatowi akceptacji społecznej i wytworzeniu przychylnej atmosfery dla - czasami - znacznych ograniczeń i zakazów.

Thisarticle discusses the multi-threaded and multi-dimensional process of preparing a technicaldesigns that lead to the introduction of new forms of use into existing urban and architectural structures of high historical value. It covers research concerning formal and spatial determinants, associated with local law in selected European countries. Its results point to concise, precise and easily understandable provisions in terms of local law concerning planned development in areas under heritage conservation, which is conducive to a climate of social acceptance of constraints and prohibitions that - some - may consider significant.

Architectural expression in designing museums as places of remembrance

Museums commemorating tragic historic events require the application of particular means of architectural expression. Both the form of the building, the interior design, lighting and materials and its surroundings became a part of the exhibition. In this article the narrative role of architectural components is discussed based on three museums located in different cultural and geographical areas. These are: the Nanjing Massacre Memorial Hall in Nanjing, the Jewish Museum in Berlin and the Museum of the Second World War in Gdańsk.

Muzea upamiętniające tragiczne wydarzenia historyczne wymagają stosowania szczególnych środków architektonicznego wyrazu. Zarówno forma budynku i aranżacja wnętrz, oświetlenie i materiały, jak też jego otoczenie stają się częścią ekspozycji. W artykule została podjęta dyskusja nad narracyjną rolą elementów architektonicznych na przykładzie trzech obiektów zlokalizowanych w różnych obszarach kulturowych i geograficznych. Są nimi: Muzeum Masakry w Nankinie, Mueum Żydowskie w Berlinie i Muzeum II Wojny Światowej w Gdańsku.
