Działania z zakresu ochrony i kształtowania krajobrazu rodzą potrzebę dostarczenia odpowiednich narzędzi, pozwalających na monitorowanie jego stanu. Do ilościowego opisu stanu krajobrazu oraz oceny jego zmian służyć mogą metryki krajobrazowe. Artykuł jest odpowiedzią na tę potrzebę i przedstawia propozycję nowej metody oceny stopnia antropogenicznego przekształcenia krajobrazu. Metoda ta opiera się na ocenie relacji pomiędzy indeksem średniego kształtu płatu (MSI) a indeksem różnorodności Shannona (SHDI), opisanej za pomocą zaproponowanego wskaźnika antropogenicznego przekształcenia krajobrazu ALTI. Założono, że spadek tego wskaźnika oznacza wzrost antropogenicznego przekształcenia krajobrazu. Wykazano, że dla analizowanej próby badawczej, wartość zaproponowanego wskaźnika przyjmuje duże wartości w obszarach parków narodowych (krajobrazy przyrodnicze), maleje w gminach wiejskich (krajobrazy przyrodniczo-kulturowe), a w obszarach miast reprezentujących krajobrazy kulturowe osiąga najniższe wartości.

In the context of the actions taken in the field of landscapeprotection and architecture, the need arises to implement appropriate tools for landscape monitoring. Landscape metrics can be used in order to provide a quantitative description of the landscape shape. The present paper responds to this need, hence proposing a new method of assessing the anthropogenic landscape transformation. This method is based on the correlation between the Mean Shape Index (MSI) and Shannon’s Diversity Index (SHDI), described by means of the Anthropogenic Landscape Transformation Index (ALTI). It has been assumed that a drop in this index indicates an increase in the anthropogenic landscape transformation. The findings from the research sample reveal that the ALTI value is elevated in national parks (natural landscape); it drops in rural municipalities (natural and cultural landscape); and reaches the lowest level in urban municipalities (cultural landscape).

W artykule przedstawiono wyniki badania dotyczącego dotyczącego zmian antropogenicznych zachodzących na obszarze garnizonu wojskowego, obecnie terenów powojskowych, w tym szczególnie osiedla mieszkaniowego. Sięgnięto w tym celu do metody empirycznej badania krajobrazu kulturowego, opracowując ministudium przeobrażeń na obszarze zlokalizowanym na pograniczu powiatów będzińskiego i tarnogórskiego. Posłużono się własnymi obserwacjami prowadzonymi od 40 lat, zachowanymi mapami wojskowymi, wyrysami geodezyjno‐kartograficznymi, zdjęciami archiwalnymi i wspomnieniami innych mieszkańców Mierzęcic‐Osiedla. Pierwsza część poświęcona jest przedstawieniu związków pomiędzy przestrzenią społeczną stającą się miejscem a krajobrazem kulturowym. W części drugiej opisano i zanalizowano przeobrażenia antropogeniczne obszaru badawczego w aspekcie osadniczym.

Introducing into the problems of the paper, the influence of anthropopressure upon the natural landscape surrounding a human being has been reminded. Showing the parallel between a geographical notion „landscape” and a sociological term „space” has been accepted as useful for further disquisition. Rich implications for a researcher of human environment are the result. The author focused upon the description of anthroposphere and technosphere transformations in Mierzęcice‐Estate settlement unit. The cultural landscape was here delimited by lasting a few decades military activity. Different military units appropriated original rural lands for their own purposes, both defensive and offensive ones. The area that was researched was a 60‐year‐old garrison (1940‐2000), i.e. the place of residence of a military unit. The airfield together with the barracks and the estate serving it were dominant military installations. Garrison liquidation caused substantial job losses, breaking cooperative bonds between the pre‐existing military unit and nearby companies, migration of significant number of inhabitants and thus it caused the whole commune to be less interesting as far as investments were concerned. A few years of decapitalisation and defragmentation of post‐military area make it difficult to re‐develop by European standards. In spite of several political turbulences, in 2007 the program of post military area revitalisation in Mierzęcice Commune was started. Its financial expenditures are to come up to 8‐9 million PLN. As the result of the revitalisation, it is expected to stop progressive cultural degradation of space and to change its image through valorisation.

Esoterics says, that everything what is geometrical on the world belong to divine thoughts, man is full of, while that things, what are asymmetric-to earthly nature. And so this thing what is geometrical (rhythmical, eurhythmic also) means an enclave of thought in boundlessness of nature. Human's place on the Earth - house and garden. Rhythm plays special role in our existential space formation. It satisfies need of ordering of impressions stream, which flow in from outside to our senses. It captures of the world, recognitions his laws and qualifications them with rhythmical image. Research passed in Poland, relating valorization of landscape among Polish peasants says, that they acknowledged only symmetrical composition as nice. Aesthetical patterns educated in exclusive layers of society, a high style, went down more and more lower, creating low style. Axis and symmetry of manor houses arose while from spirit of classical, Vitruvius eurhythmy. Eurhythmic composition (symmetrical and rhythmical) on ground of theory of architecture and arts was synonym beauties, usefulness and familiar (!) and one opposed her irregularities, to ugliness and not usefulness (understood as wildness also). This theory was obligatory to XVIII age, to moment of appearing new aesthetical picturesque paradigmatic. Analysis of contemporary family gardens in their functional, formal and meaning layer show, that forms, which are shaped by users of space, join with realization of family existential needs. Accumulation of symmetrical and rhythmical forms full of symbolical meanings in spaces different of function and of meanings -especially entrance space - testifies, that rhythm plays major role in family garden and fructify with mark symbolic of "isolation and opening" in existential space. In this zones assemble supernatural proprieties of the rhythm. System of ornaments permits man to feel environment and helps him to find existential support.
