Since 9/11 combating islamic terrorism became one of the most important issues to American people and a significant topic in presidential elections. With the emergence of ISIS and recent spate of attacks in USA and othr Western countries, the public became increasingly frustrated with the Washington’s prosecution of the war on terror. The text focuses on the last race for the White House. It illustrates top GOP and democratic candidates’ strategies on fighting jihadism and underscores the desire of the large segment of Americans wanting a radical change in government’s approach to that menace.

Światowy terroryzm wymusza przedsięwzięcia w zakresie koalicyjnej walki często z dala od terytoriów narodowych państw nim zagrożonych. Nie zwalnia to jednak przywódców państw, odpowiedzialnych za bezpieczeństwo ich społeczeństw, od braku zainteresowania ochroną i obroną terytorium narodowego. A to z kolei wymusza dodatkowe wzmocnienie struktury służącej tej ochronie i obronie - tj. instytucji obrony narodowej. W Polsce tymczasem następuje powolna degradacja tej instytucji i komponentu wojskowego jej służącemu. Przez to Ministerstwo Obrony Narodowej staje się organem zagranicznej interwencji wojsk operacyjnych, w małym stopniu zajmującym się ochroną i obroną terytorium narodowego Polski. A to w wypadku geopolitycznego położenia RP i wniosków z historii staje się problemem strategicznym, wywołującym konieczność pilnego wstrzymania tego destrukcyjnego dla bezpieczeństwa narodowego procesu. Wyjściem z tej niekomfortowej strategicznie sytuacji jest właściwe opracowanie strategii bezpieczeństwa narodowego, strategii obrony narodowej i narodowej strategii wojskowej oraz odtworzenie sprawdzonych w innych państwach demokratycznych, oraz w Polsce, komponentów wojsk, które byłyby nie tylko gwarantem niepodległości RP, lecz także siłami interwencji wojewodów na potrzeby wewnętrzne państwa polskiego m.in. w czasie sytuacji kryzysowych.

Global terrorism is influential in governments’ undertaking allied armed actions against hostilities in foreign territories. However, this can’t be an excuse for task subtraction from domestic protection. The leaders can’t just move the danger abroad, since the best solution for national security rests in adding support structures within the spectrum of national defense institutions. In Poland meanwhile, a slow degradation of national defense institutions and military elements is observed. The Ministry of Defense performing foreign missions abroad is not fully involved in protection of the Polish territory. Geopolitical situation of Poland throughout its history exemplifies that the lack of reckoning in defense may cause strategic problems affecting its security. Therefore, the state’s policy should be properly adjusted, as claims the author. The remedy rests in the appropriate strategies for National Security, National Defense and National Military. This planning should take into account examples of those democratic countries that created an efficient plan for their security. The Polish armed forces can be restructured in a similar fashion allowing it to act in unison on different levels of security protection - domestic, foreign, as well as in cases of natural disasters and emergencies.
