Purpose: The article presents issues related to the transport of slaughter animals in terms of sustainable development and during the time of increased interest in animal rights. The aim of the article is to analyze the functioning of transport companies involved in the transport of animals. The first part of the article presents issues related to animal welfare, which is part of the concept of sustainable development. Particular attention was paid to the issue of welfare during the transport of farm animals to the slaughterhouse. Methodology: The article presents the results of the Supreme Audit Office on the transport of animals, which were carried out in 1998, 2003, 2005 and 2017, and the results of inspections belonging to the tasks of the Veterinary Inspection in the Silesian Voivodeship in 2019 and 2020.Then the author presents her research results. The survey was conducted among the owners of enterprises handling the transport of slaughter animals in the Silesian Voivodeship and among drivers and guards of these enterprises. 94 business owners and 92 drivers transporting animals participated in the study. Chi-square tests were used to show the relationship between the variables Findings: On the basis of the conducted research, it was found that the control system is conducive to the enforcement of the law in the field of transport of animals for slaughter in enterprises. Originality/value: In the context of sustainable development, the subject of animal welfare is being increasingly regarded as essential. Ensuring animal welfare is now the key issue for public opinion, livestock farmers, animal rights organizations, entrepreneurs, transport companies and slaughterhouses. The awareness of people related to publicizing animal abuse is increasing, and we as consumers also have a right to know how animals were treated on farms and during transport.

The paper presents assumptions related to the implementation of sustainable development in logistics, which result from the need to protect the environment which is subject to systematic degradation. The concepts presented in this paper are aimed to both reduce the impact of negative factors on the environment and optimise transport costs.The paper also discusses the topics of sustainable consumption and meat quality. Attention was drawn to the problem of animal welfare contained in the so-called ’5 freedoms’. Information on meat defects is also included, as well as information on livestock skin injuries and transport-related animal mortality. As a result of an analysis of literature on this topic, it was found that transportation is still extremely stressful for animals despite advances in transportation technology. An analysis of the collected material led to the conclusion that meat quality depends on many factors, with transport being the critical point that drastically lowers its level.

Opisano najważniejsze elementy techniczne dotyczące środków transportu samochodowego oraz infrastruktury drogowej w Polsce. Zasygnalizowano warunki kontroli w czasie jazdy dokonywanej przez ITD oraz lekarza weterynarii. W artykule zaprezentowano sposób transportu zwierząt w krajowym transporcie drogowym, wymagania czasu przewozu oraz powierzchni dla różnych gatunków zwierząt.

The article presents the European Union legislation and Polish regulation concerning the conditions of transport of animals. It describes the main technical elements relating to means of transport and road infrastructure in Poland. The control conditions while driving carried out by ITD and the veterinarian were pointed out. The paper presents a way of animal transport in the national transport, the transport time requirements and surface for various animal species.

W artykule przedstawiono problematykę transportu zwierząt w kontekście bezpieczeństwa technicznego. Zaprezentowano przepisy regulujące przewozy na terytorium Polski oraz Unii Europejskiej. Przedstawiono rolę Głównego Inspektora Weterynarii w stosunku do komfortowego i bezpiecznego transportu zwierząt. W ostatnim rozdziale wymieniono główne elementy środków transportu wykorzystywane podczas przemieszczania zwierząt hodowlanych.

The article presents the problem of animal transport in the context of technical safety. Rules governing the transport on Polish territory and the European Union were presented. The role of the Chief Inspector of Veterinary Medicine in relation to a comfortable and safe transport of animals was presented. The final chapter shows the major elements of the means of transport used during the transport of farm animals.

W artykule zaprezentowano model matematyczny zestawu transportowego. Przedstawiono opis modelowania obciążeń pochodzących od transportu zwierząt. Opisano dwa płaskie modele analityczne oraz model MES uwzględniający przewidywane przemieszczanie się zwierząt podczas transportu. W szczególności skupiono się na przedstawieniu implementacji obciążeń dla przypadku jazdy na łuku drogi.

Mathematical models of loads implementation for trailer system of animals transport is presented in the paper. Also description of modelling of loads caused by transported animals is presented in the article. Two 2D analytical and FEM models are presented. The FEM model takes into account possible animal movement during a transport. The loads for the run on road turn were especially analyzed.
