Quantitative analysis of reinforcing phase in AlSi11/CrFe30C8 composite castings

In this paper assessment of the morphology and segregation of the reinforcing phase based on optical quantitative analysis was achieved. Microscopic observation of AlSi11/CrFe30C8 composite gravity castings was carried out in electromagnetic field. The purpose of investigation was the analysis of current frequency influence supplying the inductor of electromagnetic field on segregation, quantity and morphology of reinforcement phase in aluminum matrix composite. Technological conception of investigations was based on assumption that chromium-iron matrix of particles dissolved in aluminum composite matrix and carbide phases became actual reinforcement of the composite. Gravity segregation was analyzed. Graphs containing distribution of reinforcing phase in metal matrix were shown.

Celem przeprowadzonych badań było stwierdzenie wpływu oddziaływania wirującego rewersyjnego pola magnetycznego na wielkość segregacji stopu lutowniczego BAg-3 przeznaczonego na wzorce spektrometryczne. Badania polegały na wykonaniu wlewków pod działaniem wirującego rewersyjnego pola magnetycznego (WRPM) oraz bez udziału pola, a następnie analizie stopnia segregacji.

The main aim of this work was to evaluate influence of rotating reversing magnetic field (RRMF) on segregation in BAg-3 solder for spectrometer standard. In the studies alloy ingots were poured with and without RRMF and then the chemical composition on different surfaces was examined showing the degree of segregation.

Istotną cechą wzorców spektrometrycznych jest ich jednorodność chemiczna. Jednym ze sposobów poprawy jednorodności składu chemicznego i strukturalnego odlewów może być zastosowanie podczas jego krystalizacji wymuszonej konwekcji. W przeprowadzonych badaniach do wytwarzania wymuszonego ruchu ciekłego metalu w formie zastosowano pole magnetyczne. Badania przeprowadzono na stopie Ag-Cu-Zn-Cd-Ni.

Very important feature of spectrometric standard samples is their chemical homogeneity. One of the way to improve chemical and structural homogeneity is application of forced convection during solidification of the casting. In presented studies forced convection was obtained by use of electromagnetic field. In the studies alloy ingots were poured with and without rotating reversing magnetic field and then the chemical composition on different surfaces was examined showing the degree of segregation.
