Content available Preliminary study of time banking participation
EN
Thailand will be entering full-scale aging society in 2021, when 20 % of population will be over sixty years old. This will cause significant societal changes, and it is very important that the country is prepared to deal with problems that may arise from aging society. Unfortunately substantial number of senior citizens are financially unprepared for retirement due to low financial literacy. An effective social welfare system is needed, which will require a large amount of financial support. An interesting approach to delivering social welfare is co-production which is a practice that involves public services and communities in the mutual deliveries of welfares. Time banking is an engagement practice which each member agrees to give and take credits for service. Time credits can be earned by providing services to those in need. Such system is a kind of co-production which can help build community relationship and complement social welfare system. Time banking can be applied to all generations, and it is especially suitable for aging society. This paper explores the interests in joining time banking among people living in Bangkok and vicinity. It investigates the respondents’ lifestyles, interests in joining time bank, and possible matching of interests. The results reveal existing gaps and may be used in further study for establishing time banking system.

The article addresses the important issue of an aging society and its impact on the need for changes in social and health policy. The United States has become the backdrop to ongoing care, which through the Medicare government program strongly supports the financing of the care of people over 65 years of age. Unfortunately, the Polish government is still a little behind, pointing out the need for a systematic approach to the phenomenon of an aging society. It is important to integrate these people, to provide specialists and to take account of the process in public finances.

Artykuł porusza tematykę pielęgnacji historycznych założeń ogrodowych, w tym funkcjonujących jako przestrzenie publiczne, zabytkowych parków. Szczególną uwagę poświęcono idei włączania seniorów w opiekę i pielęgnację zabytkowych założeń parkowych. Wskazane są wzajemne obustronne korzyści jakie mogą wyniknąć, ze współpracy między opiekunami zabytkowych obiektów, a zorganizowanymi grupami seniorów, którzy działaliby w ramach wolontariatu, fundacji bądź symbolicznego wynagrodzenia. Mogą one mieć przełożenie na poprawę stanu historycznych założeń ogrodowych jak i pozytywny wpływ na stan zdrowia fizycznego i psychicznego osób starszych.

The authoress wishes to discuss the idea of engaging senior citizens into the maintenance and care of historical park and garden complexes. The article illustrates the possible mutual benefits of the cooperation between the caretakers of these complexes and organized groups of senior citizens, who whose participation would be based on a form of voluntary help, through a foundation, or based on monetary compensation. Such a cooperation could lead to an improvement of the condition of historical gardens, in addition to providing beneficial effects to the physical and mental health of older people.

Content available remote Problems specific to the postreproductive stage of human life in the aging society
EN
The average human life span has significantly increased in majority of developed countries since the latter half of the last century. As a consequence, people can expect to enjoy life for longer than before. However, many problems have emerged in aging societies, making later life more difficult. It is obvious that an aging population causes economic problems such as the difficulty of maintaining pension and medical insurance systems. While such problems are serious and will not be solved easily, more serious and essential problems have emerged because of the changes in social and cultural environments of elderly people. The elderly are now so common that they are not as respected as they once were in former days. They no longer carry the social prestige of wise leaders. Lifestyle changes are occurring so rapidly that the elderly cannot effectively utilize their own experiences, and they experience difficulties adapting to the latest way of life. Cultural maturity, by which the elderly can comfortably spend their later life, might be expected. However, the decline of physical function in the postreproductive stage of life due to aging seriously restricts their activities. In this paper, problems that have emerged in the postreproductive stage of human life in an aging society are discussed from biological and cultural points of view.

The aim of this study was to design a prescriptive exercise program for people of various age and fitness basing on the popular in Japan Radio Physical Fitness Exercise, a program based on an experimental approach. The evaluation indices used in the experiment were heart rate (HR), oxygen consumption, and electrical activity of the rectus femoris, latissimus dorsi, and trapezius muscles, which measured during various motion elements of the program performed at various rate. The results of this study enable to calculate equations for predicting HR during exercise from relative metabolic rate (RMR). The data on HR, RMR, and myoelectric potential presented in this study may be a basis for designing individual exercise programs for elderly people.
