Content available remote Stability of a Flexible Rotating Shaft with Electromagnetic Actuators
EN
The paper is concerned with the problem of active stabilisation of a rotating slender shaft equipped with electromagnetic actuators. The actuators exert an attractive force on the shaft, which strongly affects the dynamical behaviour of the system. The aim of the paper is to show that the application of electromagnets may considerably enlarge the critical rotation speed at which the shaft exhibits self-excited vibration. This undesired effect can be shifted towards larger operational rotation speeds, which is confirmed in the following study for selected structural and material parameters of the entire system.

We study the application of electromagnetic actuators for the active stabilization of the Leipholz column. The cases of the compressive and tensional load of the column placed in air and in water are considered. The partial differential equation of the column is discretized by Galerkin's procedure, and the stability of the obtained control system is evaluated by the eigenvalues of its linearization. Four different methods of active stabilization are investigated. They incorporate control systems based on feedback proportional to the transverse displacement of the column, its velocity and the current in the electromagnets. Conditions in which these strategies are effective in securing safe operation of the column are discussed in detail.

Content available remote Evaluation of muscular stabilization ability during a static workout
EN
The aim of this research was to determine the moving and stabilizing functions of selected groups of muscles during the process of static workout. 15 students of the Academy of Physical Education were tested in non-competitive training. Muscular torques achieved during flexing and extending big limb joints were used as the determinant of force. Comparative analysis of torque values achieved in passive stabilization (with support) and muscular stabilization (without support) in elbow and knee joints was carried out. The value of the force applied to the passively stabilizing element in a given measurement during the flexion of elbow and the extension of knee joint was tested. The results of these tests allowed us to learn the value of muscular torques and – after statistical analysis – the relationship between them in particular functions.
