It is known that sub-surface discontinuities of matter, internal voids, inclusions of other materials or delaminations of the structure can be revealed on the surface temperature distribution. An important element of IR thermography investigations is the application of an appropriate heat source to heat the examined object. This article discusses the use of eddy currents for identification of reinforcing bars in concrete samples. The experiments have the laboratory character and are used primarily for qualitative assessment of the influence of bar diameter and concrete cover thickness on the identification of reinforcement in concrete elements. In order to induce a transient heat flow in tested samples, the eddy currents (EC) generator from IFF GmbH was used. After the pulse was completed, the surface temperature distribution was recorded using FLIR T620 infrared camera. The following experimental studies validate the practical application of active IR with EC to locate and assess the technical condition of reinforcing bars in reinforced concrete structures in buildings and civil engineering structures.

The paper describes the problem of building envelope investigation with active thermography. Mainly emphasized is its application to detect different material of wall inclusions. Examples of active thermography application and description of experimental investigation has been shown on a model envelope, with inclusion of significantly different thermal conductivity and heat capacity materials; XPS polystyrene, steel and granite. Thermograms received for every kind of inclusion have been compared and analyzed. Finally, the summary and conclusion have been shown along with the prospects of development and practical application of this kind of investigation in construction.

W podsumowaniu przedstawiono wnioski wraz z perspektywami rozwoju badań i praktycznego zastosowania termografii aktywnej w budownictwie.

Content available remote Detection of nonmetallic landmines using microwaveenhanced infrared thermography
EN
Nowadays detection of the landmines is mostly based on electromagnetic induction. This method, however, is useless for the low metal containing, plastic devices. The microwave-enhanced infrared thermography, which can detect plastics as well as the explosive material itself, can be an alternative for the metal detectors. In this paper we present the theoretical foundations of this technique and some experimental methods that have been provided.
