TIARA jest Europejskim Konsorcjum Techniki Akceleratorowej, które poprzez prowadzenie projektów badawczych, technicznych, sieciowych i infrastrukturalnych ma doprowadzić do integracji środowiska naukowo-technicznego oraz zasobów materialnych w skali całej Europy. Konsorcjum gromadzi wszystkie ośrodki europejskie posiadające dużą infrastrukturę akceleratorową. Pozostałe ośrodki, jak np. uniwersytety, są afiliowane jako członkowie stowarzyszeni. TIARA-PP (faza przygotowawcza) jest projektem europejskim prowadzonym przez Konsorcjum i wykonywanym w ramach EU FP7. W artykule przedstawiono ogólny zakres działań Konsorcjum TIARA, poprzedzając to portretem współczesnej techniki akceleratorowej oraz przeglądem jej zastosowań w nowoczesnym społeczeństwie.

TIARA is an European Collaboration of Accelerator Technology, which by running research projects, technical, networks and infrastructural has a duty to integrate the research and technical communities and infrastructures in the global scale of Europe. The Collaboration gathers all research centers with large accelerator infrastructures. Other ones, like universities, are affiliated as associate members. TIARA-PP (preparatory phase) is an European infrastructural project run by this Consortium and realized inside EU-FP7. The paper presents a general overview of TIARA activities, with an introduction containing a portrait of contemporary accelerator technology and a digest of its applications in modern society.

Opisano działania koordynacyjne badań naukowych, od podstawowych po wdrożeniowe, w dziedzinie techniki akceleratorowej na terenie Europy w latach 2003-2009. Badania te nie były specjalnie skoordynowane w Europie i raczej skupiały się wokół kilku ośrodków dysponujących dużą infrastrukturą badawczą, takich jak CERN, DESY, GSI, INFN, LAL, PSI. itp. Dzięki tym akcjom koordynacyjnym wiele badawczych ośrodków krajowych mogło znacznie łatwiej pogłębić i rozszerzyć lub wręcz rozpocząć swoją przygodę naukowo-techniczną z techniką akceleratorową. Opisano Europejskie programy ramowe techniki akceleratorowej CARE i EuCARD, ich zakres prac, oraz udział w nich ISE PW.

There are described coordinating actions of the accelerator science in Europe in 2003-2009. The actions embrace basic science, as well as development and applications. The accelerator research was not coordinated in Europe at a global scale but was rather concentrated in a few centers owning large infrastructure. These centers include: CERN, DESY, GSI, INFO, LAL, PSI etc. Such coordinating actions enable a lot of positive processes including new possibilities for research centers in this country. It is much easier for them to extend, deepen or even start from the beginning their adventure with the accelerator technology. There are described two European framework projects CARE and EuCARD on accelerator technology, their extent and the participation of ISE WUT in them.

There are described coordinating actions of the accelerator science in Europe in 2003-2009. The actions embrace basic science, as well as development and applications. The accelerator research was not coordinated in Europe at a global scale but was rather concentrated in a few centers owning large infrastructure. These centers include: CERN, DESY, GSI, INFN, LAL, PSI etc. Such coordinating actions enable a lot of positive processes including new possibilities for research centers in this country. It is much easier for them to extend, deepen or even start from the beginning their activities in the field of the accelerator technology. This field includes also free electron lasers. There are described two European framework projects CARE and EuCARD on accelerator technology, their extent and the participation of the Institute of Electronic Systems ISE WUT in them.
