According to the standard cosmological scenario, the universe began with a hot Big Bang. This was followed by numerous physical processes which have led to its current structure. The status of the current structure may, however, have interesting implications for the future evolution. We investigate possible options, bearing in mind the observational evidence for the accelerated expansion. For example, future singularities of the Big Rip and of the sudden type may be such options.
