Z postępem techniki świetlnej wydłużył się czas korzystania z przestrzeni otwartych po zmierzchu. Autorka artykułu zwraca uwagę na fakt, iż rewolucja, jaka zachodzi obecnie w tej technice niejako zmusza architektów przestrzeni do zmiany funkcji światła - z tylko użytkowej na użytkową i estetyczną. Witruwiusz definiując triadę firmitas, utilitas, venustas nie mógł przewidzieć ogromnej roli, jaką odegra światło w konstruowaniu nocnego obrazu obiektów architektonicznych oraz przestrzeni miejskich. Autorka wskazuje również na zagrożenia płynące z nieumiejętnego wykorzystania światła, które może "zabić" przestrzeń.

Together with the development of the light technique, the time of using open spaces after dusk is longer. The author points out that the revolution observed in this technique forces somehow the spacial architects to change the function of the light - from usable only to usable and aesthetic. Vitruvius, when defining the triad firmitas, utilitas, venustas could not forsee the immense role the light would play in constructing the nocturnal picture of architectural objects and urban space. Also, the author indicates the dangers resulting from incompetent usage of the light that is able to "kill" the space.

An attempt has been made to show how essential values: durability, usefulness and beauty are helpful to explain or to define the bounds of architecture. The civilazation has influenced the conception of the Vitruvius's triad. A lot of opinions especially concerning the aesthetic form are subjective that makes it difficult to establish the exact definition of the bounds of architecture. Besides, the building materials, the way of using the building and its aesthetics are constantly changing. However, the objects deprived of these features can't be numbered among the architectural objects.
