Wstęp i cele: Przegląd prac doktorskich został przeprowadzony by utworzyć zbiór dysertacji na temat chorób rzadkich oraz określić ich tematykę i metodykę badań. Materiały i metody: Wybór i charakterystykę prac przeprowadzono w oparciu o źródła drukowane przedstawiające listy wszystkich prac doktorskich obronionych w Uniwersytecie Kopenhaskim w latach 1977-1990, czasopismo „Københavns Universitets Årbog” i właściwe teksty dysertacji. Wyniki: Choroby rzadkie stanowiły ważne pole tematyczne dysertacji w zakresie medycyny w Uniwersytecie Kopenhaskim w latach 1980-1985. Spośród 233 dysertacji w 38 opisano badania chorób rzadkich jako pojedynczych chorób lub grup chorób. Ponadto prowadzono wiele innych prac naukowych związanych z chorobami o niskiej częstości występowania. Wnioski: Prace młodych naukowców z zakresu patogenezy, diagnostyki, leczenia, epidemiologii i historii odgrywają istotną rolę w poznawaniu problematyki chorób rzadkich. Niniejsze badanie przedstawia zakres tematyczny dysertacji i wskazuje na złożoność badanych problemów oraz różnorodność rodzajów badań i metod naukowych. Opisane rozprawy były i nadal są przydatne do dalszych badań.

Introduction and aim: A review of doctoral dissertations was conducted to create a collection of dissertations on the topic of rare diseases and to define their topics and research methodology. Material and methods: The selection and characteristics of the papers were based on printed sources presenting lists of all PhD theses defended at the University of Copenhagen in the years 1977-1990, the journal ‘Københavns Universitets Årbog’ and texts of the proper dissertations. Results: Rare diseases were an important subject of dissertations in medicine at the University of Copenhagen over the period of 1980-1985. 38 of 233 theses in the field of medicine from this period were performed on rare diseases studied as individual illnesses or groups of diseases. In addition, many other scientific studies related to low-incidence diseases were carried out. Conclusion: The works of young scientists in the field of pathogenesis, diagnostics, treatment, epidemiology and history play an important role in learning the issues of rare diseases. This review presents the thematic scope and indicates the complexity of the examined problems and the diversity of the types of the research and the scientific methods. These dissertations were and still are useful for further research.
