The article explains the different types of on-board diagnostic systems (OBD) used in motor vehicles, as well as the impact of the latest automotive security norms on diagnostic interface security. The paper focuses on identifying potential security threats in on-board diagnostic systems used in automotive control units. During the research, a diagnostic interface device of its own design, carrying out special test procedures, was excavated. The research was conducted on several vehicles and ECUs, applying black box penetration testing. The paper's goal is to list all identified vulnerabilities in diagnostic protocol implementation and suggest some corrective actions for software that would increase security. The authors defined a list of low-cost software requirements that can be easily implemented on most modern ECUs.

Jednym z zadań zwiększenia bezpieczeństwa w ruchu drogowym jest "obecność" w pojazdach rejestratora danych wypadku - UDS. Dzieki jego zastosowaniu w pojazdach osiągane są zauważalne wyniki zarówno w prewencji wypadkowej, jak i w polepszeniu analiz powypadkowych. Zastosowanie UDS wpływa na zmniejszenie ilości wypadków o ok. 30% (we flotach, użytkujących urządzenie), mobilizację kierowcy do bezpieczniejszej jazdy; jest doskonałym narzędziem oceny pracy kierowców. Z drugiej strony montaż UDS w pojazdach pociąga za sobą zmniejszenie kosztów napraw powypadkowych o ok. 40%. UDS przyczynia się również do ochrony prawnej użytkownika ruchu drogowego, szczególnie w sytuacji, gdy brak bezstronnego i obiektywnego świadka. W takim przypadku role świadka zdarzenia spełnia UDS - samochodowa czarna skrzynka.

One of the tasks of increasing the safety range in the road traffic is an attendance in the vehicles accident data registration - UDS. Thanks for his adaption in the vehicles, it is achieved the noticeable results both in the accident prevention and improving postaccident analysis. Using UDS influences to reduce the quantity about 30% (in the fleets, the installation users), the driver mobilization to safer drive; it is an excellent instrument to evaluate the drivers work. From the other side, the UDS assembly in the vehicles entails reducing costs of the after-accidental repairs about 40%. UDS also contributes to the legal protection of the road user, esspecially in the situation of lack the impartial and objective and witness. In that case, the role of event witness fulfils UDS - a car black box.
