This paper presents the effect of the addition of Ti to the zinc bath. Hot-Dip Galvanizing was carried out on a machined ductile cast iron substrate. The process was carried out at 550°C. Experimental baths A, B and C contained 0.01%, 0.05% and 0.1%Ti, respectively. Metallographic samples were prepared to reveal the microstructure of the coatings. Thickness measurements of the obtained coatings were carried out, and graphs of the approximate crystallization kinetics of the zinc coating were prepared. High-temperature galvanization carried out on the treated surface led to the release of graphite beads from the metal matrix and their diffusion into the coating. This phenomenon can have an adverse effect on the continuity of the coating and its adhesion to the substrate. Crystallization of the δ phase was observed in the coating, and at longer immersion times – a mixture of two-phase δ1 and η phases. With increasing Ti content in the bath, a deterioration in the casting properties of the bath was observed.

Content available remote Investigation on Cobalt based alloy modified by Titanium for dental applications
EN
Purpose: The main goal of this study is to develop and obtain some competitive products, with high added value. In particular, the attention will be focused on the possibility to obtain a new class of Cobalt based alloy by Ti addition. Design/methodology/approach: Modification of the composition by Ti addition can increase the corrosion resistance, processing and at the same time can improve the alloy biocompatibility. Findings: Addition of these elements has a positive effect on the alloy hardness. Up to 6% of Ti or combining Ti and Zr as alloying elements there are no significant differences as hardness concerns. As corrosion resistance in a simulated oral cavity environment concerns, no significant release of metal ions was observed, the pH value and the weight loss fulfil the conditions required by the Standard ISO 10271/2011. However, the best behaviour was obtained employing CoCrMoTi6 alloy. Research limitations/implications: Based on the up to date achieved outcomes, it appears that a quite homogeneous and good mechanical properties have been obtained modifying the original alloy with 6% of Ti. The future research work will be oriented to get additional and detailed data on the biocompatibility of the alloy. Practical implications: The central issue is the valid transfer to dentistry application. Originality/value: The aim of the paper is to obtain a new class of Co based alloy by the modification of the original chemical composition.

The subject of the paper is structural stability of the Zn-26 wt.% Al binary alloys doped with 2.2 wt.% Cu or 1.6 wt.% Ti addition. The structural stability of Zn-Al alloys with increased Al content is connected with stability of solid solution of zinc in aluminium [...] , which is the main component of these alloys microstructure. Such a solution undergoes phase transformations which are accompanied, among others, by changes in dimensions and strength properties. The structural stability of the ZnAL26Cu2.2 and ZnAl26Ti1.6 alloys was investigated using XRD examinations during long term natural ageing after casting, as well as during long term natural ageing after super-saturation and quenching. On the basis of the performed examinations it was stated that small Ti addition to the binary ZnAl25 alloy, apart from structure refinement, accelerates decomposition of the primary [...] phase giving stable structure in a shorter period of time in comparison with the alloy without Ti addition. Addition of Ti in amount of 1.6 wt.%, totally replacing Cu, allows obtaining stable structure and dimensions and allows avoiding structural instability caused by the metastable [...] CuZn4 phase present in the ZnAl26Cu2.2 alloy.

Content available remote Wpływ dodatków stopowych na temperaturę krzepnięcia staliwa austenitycznego
PL

The paper presents the results of research on TDA cooling curves of austenitic cast steel 30Ni-18Cr with niobium, titanium and silicon. The liquidus and the end of solidification temperature were determined for 15 experimental alloys in which the content of alloying elements varied in a range of 0.03-3% Nb, 0.03-1.4% Ti and 1.6÷4.3% Si. It has been found that all the alloying additions decrease the liquidus and end of solidification temperature and they cause an enlargement of the solidification interval. For alloys of the highest total content of Nb, Ti and Si the second temperature arrest on TDA curve was recorded and simultaneously G phase precipitates have been observed in the microstructure.

EN
The effect of niobium, titanium and silicon additions on fracture behaviour of 0.3%C-30%Ni--18%Cr cast steel after annealing for 300 hrs at a temperature of 900°C has been investigated. The Charpy test results showed that the presence of Nb/Ti in chemical composition in combination with silicon reduces the fracture toughness of cast steel at room temperature and at 900°C.
