Dyrektywa Parlamentu Europejskiego i Rady 2000/53/WE z dnia 18 września 2000 r. w sprawie pojazdów wycofanych z eksploatacji narzuca na producentów samochodów konieczność udostępniania informacji, między innymi na temat projektowania pojazdów i ich części z uwzględnieniem ich łatwości do odzyskiwania i recyklingu a także informacji o demontażu pojazdu. Wymogi prawne w tym zakresie wymusiły współpracę czołowych producentów samochodów. Efektem tej współpracy jest system IDIS (International Dismantling Information System - System Międzynarodowej Informacji o Demontażu) opisany w tym artykule.

The Directive 2000/53/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 18 september2000 on end-of-life vehicles imposes on car manufacturers the necessity of sharing information, i. a. about the design of vehicles and their components with a view to their recoverability and recyclability as well as information about the dismantling of vehicles. Legal requirements in this area created a need for cooperation between the leading car manufacturers. The effect of said cooperation is IDIS - International Dismantling Information System, which is described in this article.
