There is a growing potential for the use of the micro-cogeneration systems in buildings since they have the ability to efficiently produce both useful thermal energy and electricity from a single source of fuel. These products are used or aimed for meeting the electrical and thermal demands of a building for space and domestic hot water heating, and potentially, thermally driven cooling. Paper presents principle of operation and essential characteristic of market available technologies of micro-cogeneration as well as micro-thermally driven chillers.

Rozwiązania techniczne takich urządzeń zostały opracowane i opatentowane w Politechnice Rzeszowskiej, a ich działanie wraz z biomasowym układem kogeneracyjnym z silnikiem Stirlinga będzie testowane we współpracy z Lwowskim Państwowym Uniwersytetem Rolniczym w ramach "Programu Współpracy Transgranicznej Polska - Białoruś - Ukraina 2007 - 2013," w projekcie pt. "Bio-Energetyka".

Properties of different kinds of the renewable energy as sources of energy for the completly self-sufficient agricultural tourism farm cause that in a such case cogeneration biomass technologies seem to be the most suitable. Especially interesting for undertakings in such scale are CHP based on the direct combustion furnace with the Stirling engine supplied with pellets or wooden chips. The production of the wood-biomass on own needs in the small farm requires agricultural devices adapted to that scale of the production. Technical solutions of such devices were worked out and patented in Rzeszów University of Technology, and they are to be wide-tested together with the biomass CHP system with the Stirling engine in cooperation with Lvov State Agricultural University within the framework of "The Program of the Transborder Cooperation Poland - Byelorussia - Ukraine 2007-2013" in the project entitled ,,Bioenergetics".
