The work concerns the selection of the programming language and environment for the needs of neural modeling of the power and electricity demand generation system in terms of uninhabited factories. Therefore, the main goal of the conducted research is to obtain the best possible Artificial Neural Network, i.e. to teach it a model of a real system, which is a system for generating demand for power and electricity based on numerical data on parts of the power system operation in terms of uninhabited factories. The learning capabilities of artificial neural networks were checked by comparing the MSE error and the Regression Index R2. In each of the examined programming languages and related programming environments, i.e. Matlab, Python and Wolfram, an Artificial Neural Network with the same structure and properties was designed and implemented, i.e. with the same number of input and output neurons, the number of hidden layers and the number of neurons in them, the activation function of neurons and the learning method. In addition to the ANN training of the system model, testing and validation as well as comparative studies were carried out.

This paper describes the use of reinforcement learning in the Simulink model to simulate the control of the crystallization process. A tomographic data acquisition workstation for controlling the actual crystallization process managed by a reinforcement learning agent is also presented. Reconstructing the image from the tomographic system allows the reinforcement learning agent to obtain additional real-time data about the state of the environment, which in turn will allow the controller to guide the process.

In this article, a well-known technique, the variational iterative method with the Laplace transform, is used to solve nonlinear evolution problems of a simple pendulum and mass spring oscillator, which represents the duffing equation. In the variational iteration method (VIM), finding the Lagrange multiplier is an important step, and the variational theory is often used for this purpose. This paper shows how the Laplace transform can be used to find the multiplier in a simpler way. This method gives an easy approach for scientists and engineers who deal with a wide range of nonlinear problems. Duffing equation is solved by different analytic methods, but we tackle this for the first time to solve the duffing equation and the nonlinear oscillator by using the Laplace-based VIM. In the majority of cases, Laplace variational iteration method (LVIM) just needs one iteration to attain high accuracy of the answer for linearization anddiscretization, or intensive computational work is needed. The convergence criteria of this method are efficient as compared with the VIM. Comparing the analytical VIM by Laplace transform with MATLAB’s built-in command Simulink that confirms the method’s suitability for solving nonlinear evolution problems will be helpful. In future, we will be able to find the solution of highly nonlinear oscillators.

An article herein considers the development of a fiber-optic sensor system, based on fiber Bragg gratings. Presently, fiber-optic sensors has become world-widely known amongst sensor technologies, used for monitoring engineering and construction structures. The work is linked with developing the system from fiber-optic sensors on the basis of fiber optic gratings, its characteristics, deformation behavior and temperature, acting at fiber Bragg grating by means of computer modeling. The research is focused at the analysis of characteristics and deformation and temperature behavior of fiber-optic Bragg sensor. Fiber-optic Bragg sensor with tilted grating is used for measuring deformation of the object, the strength of which is changed, dependent on the applied force, as well, for measuring and detecting any temperature deviations, influencing at fiber Bragg grating, which might bring to fire and accidents. In the research, simulation modeling there was made in the MATLAB (Simulink) software.

Bacteriophages, viruses that can infect bacteria, are promising alternatives for antibiotic treatment caused by antibiotic-resistant bacteria strains. For that reason, the production of bacteriophages is extensively studied. Mathematical modelling can lead to the improvement of bioprocess by identification of critical process parameters and their impact on the demanded product. Dynamic modelling considers a system (i.e. bioreactor or bioprocess) as a dynamic object focusing on changes in the initial and final parameters (such as biomass concentration and product formation) in time, so-called signals and treats the studied system as a “black box” that processes signals. This work aimed to develop a mathematical model that describes bacteriophage production process. As result, we created a dynamic model that can estimate the number of bacteriophages released from cells as plaque-forming units at specific time points based on the changes in the bacteria host-cell concentration. Moreover, the proposed model allowed us to analyze the impact of the initial virus concentration given by multiplicity of infection (MOI) on the amount of produced bacteriophages.

Buildings are the main consumer of energy resources in the total energy balance of the countries in Central and Eastern Europe, the main energy consumption is allocated for heating. Efficient use of energy resources for heating needs to a large extent depends on the efficiency of regulation of heating systems. In the article, dynamic mathematical models of a two-room typical apartment in Ukraine, built in 2016, were developed in Matlab and EnergyPlus software environment. The simulations were carried out using IWEC hourly climate data for the city of Kyiv. The results of simulations of thermal energy consumption in Matlab are characterized by a larger range of fluctuations of the heating system load, which is typical for the real operating conditions of the system with the controller of ON/OFF type. In EnergyPlus it is assumed that the gas boiler operates continuously in the ON mode. In the research, the change of load on the apartment heating system was studied at different numbers and locations of air temperature control sensors installation, according to which the controller of the autonomous gas boiler operates.

The paper proposes a novel approach to analyze a rail vehicle motion, which includes an impact of varying voltage at the current collector on the vehicle’s dynamics. According to present standards, vehicle’s maximal power has to be limited and the value of this limit depends on actual value of vehicle’s supplying voltage. This, in turn, affects vehicle tractive effort and its current consumption. A model reflecting vehicle dynamics as well as its supply parameters was designed in Simulink. By a case study, it was proven that neglecting the impact of vehicle varying supply voltage on vehicle dynamics leads to substantial errors in reflecting both vehicle motion and its supply-related parameters.
