This article describes the design of the mobile Raman spectrometer of the Scorpio 7 rover. It was constructed to study the organic content of soil samples taken during the Rover Challenge series of Mars rover competitions. The basic theoretical issues that are used in Raman spectroscopy are described. Design assumptions and requirements for the construction and control software of the spectrometer during its use on board the Scorpio 7 Mars rover, constructed by the OFF-ROAD Scientific Association at the Wroclaw University of Technology, are discussed. Measurements of Raman spectra carried out by the Raman spectrometer installed in the research module of the Scorpio 7 rover are presented.
