We wstępie do artykułu nawiązano do polskiej edycji książki Jana Gehla pt. Życie między budynkami. Użytkowanie przestrzeni publicznych. W dalszej części artykułu zaprezentowano cztery edycje ogólnoeuropejskiego studenckiego konkursu urbanistycznego Schindler Award "Access for All" (2003/2004-2005/2005-2007/2008-2009/2010, którego tematem był problem rewitalizacji wybranych obszarów Brukseli, Paryża, Wiednia i Berlina. Studenci z europejskich szkół architektury przedstawiali swoje wizje współczesnej aranżacji tych przestrzeni, które w wyniku zaniku tradycji historycznych i zmian w obecnym użytkowaniu, utraciły swoją atrakcyjność i znaczenie.
