Four bead-shaped porous materials containing bismaleimide were obtained in suspension polymerization process. 4,4'-bismaleimidodiphenylmethane (BM) was the basic monomer in all cases. Divinylbenzene (DVB), vinylpyrrolidone (VP), and BM were used as crosslinking agents. The synthesized beads possessed different physico-chemical properties due to a different degree of crosslinking and the chemical character of the crosslinking agent used. The characterisation of the obtained materials included thermal stability, porosity, sorption properties, and elemental analysis. Our results showed that BM 100 % was the most thermally stable material, whereas BM-DVB revealed the highest surface area and the best sorption properties towards chlorophenols.
