Autor podjął próbę oceny przebiegu rynkowej transformacji polskiego górnictwa węgla kamiennego w latach 1990 - 2002. Rozpatrzył 5 kwestii: politykę paliwowo-energetyczną państwa, kształtowanie rynku węgla kamiennego, organizację funkcjonowania górnictwa, strategię obniżania kosztów oraz ocenę ekonomicznej efektywności sektora. Dla każdej kwestii wskazał pogląd dominujący, który kształtował realizowaną transformację oraz pogląd alternatywny. Na podstawie analizy faktów, które uznał za najistotniejsze w przebiegu transformacji - sformułował konkluzje określające postulowane kierunki i metody dalszej transformacji.

The Author made an attempt to evaluate the course of the Polish coal mining market transformation in the years 1990 - 2002. He considered 5 questions: fuel-energy policy of the country, formation of the hard coal market, organisation of mining operation, cost reduction strategy and assessment of the economic efficiency of the sector. He pointed out the dominant view which formed the realised transformation and the alternative view. Basing on the analysis of facts, considered to be most essential in the course of transformation, he formulated the conclusions determining the postulated trends and methods of the further transformation.
