In the present review article, a soil from the region of Fez-Sefrou Morocco was screened for some physicochemical characteristics using the Plackett-Burman model in order to determine the most important factors that promote its fertility. Five independent variables were selected: pH, electrical conductivity, humidity, organic matter, and C/N ratio. These variables were evaluated by statistical analysis, based on their significance, the value of the coefficient of determination and the Pareto chart. The results suggest that humidity and C/N ratio have an influence with a high level of confidence, while the other three show no significant effect on the content of nutrients in the soil. The analysis of the R2 variance value also showed that the models used for prediction were large and significant factors (p less than 0.05). Pareto chart plots for each response and its characteristics provided accurate data to select well-fitting variables for further optimization.

This study was aimed at investigating the process optimization of foam sizing for cotton yarns. In this work, effects of major foam-sizing process factors including size concentration, blowing ratio, stirring speed, pre-wetting temperature, pre-drying temperature, squeezing pressure and drying temperature were studied on the hairiness (more than 3 mm) and abrasion resistance of foam-sized yarns. The combination of Plackett-Burman, steepest ascent path analysis and Box-Behnken design were adopted to optimize the foam-sizing process of cotton yarns. Results revealed that size concentration, blowing ratio and squeezing pressure were significant factors that affected the hairiness and abrasion resistance. Optimum hairiness and abrasion resistance were obtained when the cotton yarns were sized at size concentration of 19.33%, blowing ratio of 4.27 and squeezing pressure of 0.78kN. The theoretical values and the observed values were in reasonably good agreement and the deviation was less than 1%. Verifcation and repeated trial results showed that it has good reproducibility and imparts the foam sizing process of cotton yarns.

The paper analyzes, from the geometrical aspect, the quality of the new flux cored wire intended for cladding process in function of changes in cladding parameters such as welding speed, coefficient of thermal conductivity, power source setting, the length of projecting portion of the electrode. The results of bead geometry analysis allows to illustrate the nature of the impact of the examined input variables on parameters of generated surface. The most important parameters here are the depth of penetration and the height of clad. The experimental data were processed using the Plackett-Burman experiment, which describes the impact of technological parameters on the main parameters used during production of resisting panels. It shows mathematical relations describing correlations between the input parameters and the value of depth of penetration and hight of bead made by Flux Cored Arc Welding (FCAW).

Robustness testing is an important part of method validation. Many ideas on robustness testing can be found in the literature, but the most useful approach is application of experimental design. In the work discussed in this paper, Plackett-Burman design was used for robustness testing of an LC method. Robustness was assessed for a previously validated method developed for chromatographic analysis of perindopril tert -butylamine and its impurities. Eleven factors (seven real and four dummies) in twelve experiments were examined. Robustness was assessed by graphical (half-normal probability plots and Pareto charts) and statistical ( t -test) methods. For estimation of the standard error of effect (necessary for t -test estimation) calculations based on negligible effects and Dong’s algorithm were used at the significance levels α = 0.05 and α = 0.01. In this way the effect of the factors was completely defined and, furthermore, nonsignificant intervals for significant variables were calculated. Finally, on the basis of the worst-case situation, system-suitability tests were performed and acceptance limits for certain values were calculated.
