Niniejszy artykuł stanowi próbę odpowiedzi na pytanie, jakie czynniki wpłynęły na popularność i sukces teatrów plenerowych zlokalizowanych w obszarach leśnych, na terenie dawnych ziem cesarstwa niemieckiego. Głównym przedmiotem rozważań są dwa teatry: Teatr Leśny w Gdańsku Wrzeszczu oraz Opera Leśna w Sopocie. Obiekty te zostają skonfrontowane z teatrem pod gołym niebem Freilichtbühne w Mülheim an der Ruhr, sceną leśną Waldbühne w Berlinie oraz teatrem ludowym Le Théâtre du Peuple w Bussang. Artykuł przedstawia sytuację polityczną panującą w okresie powstania ww. teatrów plenerowych oraz jej wpływ na rozwój tych obiektów. Ukazany zostaje związek czasu wdrożenia nowości technicznych do omawianych teatrów z ich popularnością. Przedstawia się także wpływ dostępności transportu zbiorowego do wybranych teatrów oraz dodatkowych funkcji pełnionych przez miasta/wsie, w których obiekty te zostały zlokalizowane. Za pomocą metody analizy porównawczej i logicznej argumentacji określono czynniki odpowiedzialne stan i funkcjonowanie leśnych teatrów plenerowych w czasach obecnych.

This article attempts to answer which factors influenced the popularity and success of open air, located in forest areas theaters, in the former lands of the German Empire. The main subjects of study are two theaters: The Forest Theatre in Gdansk Wrzeszcz and The Forest Opera in Sopot, which are juxtaposed with the open air theatre Freilichtbühne in Mülheim, the forest stage Waldbühne in Berlin and the folk theater The People's Theater in Bussang. The essay presents the political situation when the above mentioned outdoor theaters were build and its impact on their development. The relationship between the time of implementation of new technologies to the discussed theaters and their popularity is also shown. The article examines the influence of the accessibility of public transport to selected theaters and additional functions performed by the cities/villages in which these venues were located. By the use of the comparative method and logical argumentation it became possible to identify the factors responsible for the continued existence and current condition of open -air, forest theaters in modern times.
