The possibilities of development of mining transportation systems with use of drives with brushless synchronous motor with permanent magnets are presented in the paper. A review of solutions of drives used so far and comparative analysis of machines driven by electric motors and machines which use state-of-the-art. drive with synchronous motor with permanent magnets are done. Drives of machines, which move on the floor as well as drives of suspended monorails are discussed. Special attention is paid to a new solution of GAD-1 suspended drivetrain. Method for control of a drivetrain drive is presented and advantages of state-of-the-art. GAD-1 suspended drivetrain in comparison to solutions, which were used in hard coal mining industry so far, are indicated.
