In the field of logistics dynamic changes such as physical, information and financial flows take place. The main aim of this article is to present the restructuring of PKP Cargo SA company conducted in response to the outbreak of the current economic and financial crisis. Crisis has exposed inadequacy of the structures and processes within the company and significantly deteriorated its financial position. The case study research method was used to present the market position of mentioned company in the transportation industry. What is more a range of changes introduced in the company and their impact on the economic and financial situation was discussed. The adequate analyzes for a 4-year comparison period between 2007 to 2011 were evaluated. They included the development of the particular parameters both before the outbreak of the economic crisis in Europe and shortly after, that is, during the period of the greatest difficulties of the company, as well as in the years following the implementation of the restructuring program.

W referacie przedstawiono obecną sytuację PKP CARGO SA jako jednego z konkurujących na sieci kolejowej przewoźników w aspekcie konstrukcji i utrzymania urządzeń hamulcowych w wagonach towarowych. Przedstawiono również tematykę prac prowadzonych w gremiach międzynarodowych (UIC, ERRI), związanych z wymaganiami odnośnie do wyposażenia hamulcowego wagonów towarowych oraz przeprowadzania prób hamulców pojedynczych wagonów. Zaprezentowano plany PKP CARGO SA dotyczące aparatury hamulcowej oraz systemu utrzymania hamulców. Wspomniano o wstawkach hamulcowych kompozytowych.

In the paper one has presented nowadays situation of PKP CARGO SA as one of competing carriers within railway network in aspect of constructions and maintenance of brakes in cargo wagons. One has also presented the subject-matters of works being conducted within international bodies (UIC, ERRI), connected with requirements referring braking equipment for cargo wagons and conducting realization of the brakes' tests of single wagons. There have been presented plans of PKP CARGO SA concerning braking equipment and the system of brakes' maintenance. On has mentioned the brakes' composite shoes.
