Characteristics of Quaternary aquifer pollution by halogenated organic compounds (AOX) was based on: chemical analysis of layer pollution on the industrial dump site, redox conditions and pH changes in groundwater. At very high concentrations of AOX (above 5 mg/dm3) probably the organochlorine compounds are dominating (TOC above 1600 mg/dm3, Cl– 11 g/dm3, Br– 11 mg/ dm3). There is also identified the occurrence of VOX compounds in concentration 6 μg/dm3 for PCE and 9 μg/dm3 for TCE. Distribution of FeMsup>2+ (673 mg/dm3) and Mn2+ (15 mg/dm3) concentrations and also redox potential changes in contaminant plume indicate a transformation of VOX. Reaction scheme was developed under the specific soil and water environment conditions in “Zachem” Chemical Plant, as follow: PCE → TCE → DCM → CO2 + 2H+ + Cl–. Groundwater does not meet any quality standards and is really dangerous for living organisms. The whole contaminated area (i.e. “Zielona” industrial waste dump and range of contaminant plume) requires immediate and effective remediation.
