The paper describes the SBR technology. Application of this technology in the catchments particularly sensitive for pollutants of an anthropogenic origin was presented. As a case study, catchments of two impoundment reservoirs in Southern Poland were analysed: the Dobczycki and the Czorsztyński Reservoirs. Technical configurations and technologies of selected wastewater treatment plants were reviewed as well as their efficiency and operation problems. It was recommended that the impoundment reservoir catchments have to be regarded as areas particularly sensitive for eutrophication. Additionally it was noted that the effluent standards for the wastewater treatment plants with RLM >1000 have to be more stringent to allow for a use of water reservoirs as a drinking water source and protect them from eutrophication.
