Vessels’ traffic in the area of Southern Baltic has not been organized yet. Therefore a risk of potential grounding or collisions is imminent. Organization the traffic by means of passive methods like determination the ships’ routes or traffic separation schemes is one of the better measures to improve navigation safety. Although such activities should take into account interests of coastal countries. The whole area should be considered, and the needs arising from traffic at present and in the future should be met. Due to complexity of above problem, solutions that are fragmentary may lead to deterioration of existing situation and cause new threats for all Baltic countries.

This paper proposes an approach of measuring navigation performance using a full mission bridge simulator. The motivation for this research is the updates in equipment and that the desire of using new instruments and technology not always is accompanied by analyses of the impact of the changes. The task of navigating in a fairway is proposed to be assessed through various methods to answer questions related to performance and the experience of using bridge equipment. The overall aim is to reach a higher degree of understanding and knowledge through the testing of different instrumentation setups.

Computer based simulations can be used for assessment of traffic lane perimeters, and an actual level of risk at given area and given conditions. Navigational risk is defined as the product of probability of failure occurrence and the consequences it can cause. Additionally, the definition of risk was supplemented by relative frequency of performing the maneuver in given conditions and in given time t. In article method of simulation data possessing for maneuvers of approaching and entering to port, on base of specific vessels, is presented. Autonomous and non autonomous simulation methods are used for obtaining data sets, are supported in presented software solution, as well as restrictions in its implementation.
