Artykuł przedstawia pokrótce historię międzynarodowej współpracy Instytutu Łączności – Państwowego Instytutu Badawczego (IŁ) w wybranych dziedzinach, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem najistotniejszych międzynarodowych konferencji, których był inicjatorem i organizatorem oraz w zakresie współpracy w ramach najważniejszych organizacji międzynarodowych (ITU, CEPT, IEC, IALA-IMO, ETSI, URSI, IEEE-EMCS, ICTP, OWŁ/RWPG).

The article briefly presents the history of international cooperation of the National Institute of Telecommunications in selected fields of activities, with particular focus on the most important international conferences, of which Institute was the initiator and organizer and in the field of cooperation within the most important international organizations (ITU, CEPT, IEC, IALA-IMO, ETSI, URSI, IEEE-EMCS, ICTP, OWŁ / RWPG).

Environmental monitoring is of growing interest around the globe and there is a clear need for better education in this area. However, the progress is incredibly fast here and wireless sensor networking is a relatively new area of research, so no standard curricula are available yet. In 2012, the International School "Sustainable Wireless ICT Solutions for Environmental Monitoring" was organized by the International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP) in collaboration with a few other entities. The school aimed at exposing young scientists from around the world to the newest wireless solutions for environmental monitoring. The school was followed by an awareness conference, which aimed at identifying issues that would benefit from a wider scientific collaboration. This paper begins with general information about the ICTP educational activities related to wireless technologies and applications. Then it focuses on the program of the school and conference. It shows what topics were included (and what were disregard) and what approaches were applied in order to achieve the best results with the (very) limited resources available. Przedstawiono rozwój telewizji w Polsce zapoczątkowany w Państwowym Instytucie Telekomunikacyjnym w latach 30. ub. wieku, zainicjowany przez prof. Janusza Groszkowskiego. Prace w przedwojennym PIT oraz powojennym Instytucie Łączności stworzyły podwaliny pod telewizję polską oraz zadecydowały i decydują o jej rozwoju.

Presented is the development of television in Poland that was initiated by Prof. Janusz Groszkowski and began in Państwowy Instytut Telekomunikacyjny (National Institute of Telecommunications) in the 1930s. The research works in the pre-war PIT and the post-war Instytut Łączności (Institute for Communication Technologies) laid the foundations for the Polish television and decided (as they still do) about its developmen.

The paper presents overview of research and development work on power supply for telecom equipment, carried out between 1947 and 2009 at the "old" (pre-split) and "new" National Institute of Telecommunications in Warsaw. It is emphasized that engagement and hard work of employees of the Department of Power Systems has been crucial for solving complex power supply problems.

We celebrate the 50th anniversary of the activity of National Institute of Telecommunications under its present name (in Polish: Instytut Łączności) in 2001. Although we can date the beginnings of the Institute earlier, we will not present here its detailed history being discussed in other papers. This paper presents rather the transformation of the Institute in last years, resulting from the systemic transformation of Poland. We describe: the new mission of the Institute, results of structural changes of the Institute over the last five years and an outline of long-term research programme. Finally, the paper addresses the challenges facing the Institute on the verge of the new millennium.
