The article presents a summary of international documents relating to the development of the use of renewable energy sources, including geothermal energy, and increasing their share in the energy balance of the European Union and member countries. It also discusses the results of the Ministry of Climate and Environment’s strategic project entitled Development and use of geothermal potential in Poland, and the effects of evaluating applications for funding the geothermal projects submitted in the second call for proposals under the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management ’s priority program of named Accessing thermal waters in Poland. Additionally, it discusses the results of geothermal investments carried out in previous years based on domestic and foreign funds and the assumptions of the Multi-year Program for the Development of the Use of Geothermal Resources in Poland.
