Maritime Autonomous Surface Ships (MASS) perfectly fit into the future vision of merchant fleet. MASS autonomous navigation system combines automatic trajectory tracking and supervisor safe trajectory generation subsystems. Automatic trajectory tracking method, using line-of-sight (LOS) reference course generation algorithm, is combined with model predictive control (MPC). Algorithm for MASS trajectory tracking, including cooperation with the dynamic system of safe trajectory generation is described. It allows for better ship control with steady state cross-track error limitation to the ship hull breadth and limited overshoot after turns. In real MASS ships path is defined as set of straight line segments, so transition between trajectory sections when passing waypoint is unavoidable. In the proposed control algorithm LOS trajectory reference course is mapped to the rotational speed reference value, which is dynamically constrained in MPC controller due to dynamically changing reference trajectory in real MASS system. Also maneuver path advance dependent on the path tangential angle difference, to ensure trajectory tracking for turns from 0 to 90 degrees, without overshoot is used. All results were obtained with the use of training ship in real–time conditions.

This paper proposes a simplified finite control set model predictive control (FCS-MPC) strategy for a three-phase shunt active power filter (SAPF), which is based on a vector operation technique (VOT). In the conventional FCS-MPC, the optimal switching state is selected based on the evaluation and minimization of a cost function for all possible voltage vectors of the voltage source inverter (eight different vectors). The proposed FCS-MPC performs like a conventional FCS-MPC where the selection and evaluation of the possible voltage vectors are reduced by half (four vectors). The reduction in the computational burden is evident. In this study, the modified version of the instantaneous power theory based on a high selectivity filter is used to extract reference current components which increase the selectivity and the dynamic performance of SAPF. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and reliability of the SAPF with the proposed control strategy under polluted grid conditions.

The main goal of estimating models for industrial applications is to guarantee the cheapest system identification. The requirements for the identification experiment should not be allowed to affect product quality under normal operating conditions. This paper deals with ensuring the required liquid levels of the cascade system tanks using the model predictive control (MPC) method. The MPC strategy was extended with the Kalman filter (KF) to predict the system’s succeeding states subject to a reference trajectory in the presence of both process and measurement noise covariances. The main contribution is to use the application-oriented input design to update the parameters of the model during system degradation. This framework delivers the least-costly identification experiment and guarantees high performance of the system with the updated model. The methods presented are evaluated both in the experiments on a real process and in the computer simulations. The results of the robust MPC application for cascade system water levels control are discussed.

The model predictive current control (MPCC) of the permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) is highly dependent on motor parameters, and a parameter mismatch will cause the system performance degradation. Therefore, a strategy based on an internal model control (IMC) observer is proposed to correct the mismatch parameters. Firstly, based on the MPCC strategy of the PMSM, according to the dynamic model of the PMSM in a rotating orthogonal coordinate system, 𝑑-axis and 𝑞-axis current IMC observers are designed, and the stability derivation is carried out. It is proved that the observer can estimate 𝑑-axis and 𝑞-axis disturbance components caused by a parameter mismatch without static error. Then, the estimated disturbance component is compensated for by the reference voltage prediction expression. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed strategy is verified in two different conditions. The experimental results show that the proposed control strategy can effectively compensate for the parameter mismatch disturbance in MPCC for PMSM, improve the dynamic and static performance of the system, and improve the robustness of the system. voltage prediction expression.

Content available remote Hybrid welding of metal-polymer composites with a non-conducting polymer layer
EN
Metal-polymer composites (MPCs) are becoming increasingly popular primarily because of their high strength-to-weight ratio. Metal-polymer composites consist of three layers, i.e. two external metallic sheets (linings) and the core made of plastic. The presence of the internal plastic layer makes MPCs impossible to join using conventional welding processes, which significantly limits their usability. One of the solutions to the problem involves the use of hybrid methods, e.g. ultrasonic method-aided resistance welding. The research work discussed in the article involved the development of a prototype test rig and a technology enabling the joining of the Litecor® composite with steel DP600. The joining process consisted of two stages. The first stage involved the removal of the non-conducting layer of polymer from the welding area and the making of an appropriate electric contact for resistance welding. The second stage was the classical resistance spot welding process. The development of the concept posed a challenge as it was necessary to develop an appropriate acoustic waveguide for high-power ultrasonic waves which, at the same time, could transfer loads in the form of electrode force as well as provide appropriate electric and thermal conductivity without compromising acoustic parameters during the welding process. The development of the test rig was followed by the performance of numerous tests aimed to identify the appropriate window of process parameters. Test joints were subjected to macrographic, strength, ultrasonic and topographic tests.

Etap drugi to klasyczne zgrzewanie rezystancyjne punktowe.

Railway operation can result in the significant environment contamination with heavy metals. The aim of the study was to broaden the knowledge about the railway transport as a source of heavy metals. Railway ballast stones and herbicides were chosen as the objects of the research since these contamination sources on railways are hardly investigated. The location of sampling the ballast stones was a passenger station, which is characterized by the high traffic intensity. The three most common glyphosate-based herbicides and two combination system herbicides of burn-down with other active agents were chosen for the analysis. The heavy metal content in the railway ballast stones was detected by means of XRF, in the herbicides ‒ by means of MP-AES. The railway ballast stones did not contain a sufficient amount of Cd, Co, Mo, Pd, Sn and W for detection. Pb and As were detected at the low concentration of less than 35 ppm only in several samples. The research results showed that the investigated railway ballast contained a significant amount of Fe, Mn, Cu, Cr and Ni. According to the absolute content of HMs in the contaminated ballast layer, they can be arranged in the following sequence: Fe > Mn > Cu > Cr > Ni > Zn > Pb > As. The content of Fe in the contaminated ballast stones was strongly correlated with that of Ni (r = 0.972), Cr (r = 0.954) and Mn (r = 0.943). These metals are components of the railway steel. Therefore, their source can be the abrasion of rails and wheels. All the investigated herbicides contained Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn. The highest content of Cd, Cr, Ni and Pb was detected in the “Anti field bindweed” herbicide, which can be related to its complicated composition. Compared to the heavy metal content in the ballast stones, the herbicides can be considered a negligible source of these pollutants.

One of the main problems of multivariable cost functions in model predictive control is the choice of weighting factors. Two finite control set model predictive control algorithms, applied to the three-phase active rectifier with an LCL filter, are described in the paper. The investigated algorithms, i.e. PCicuc and PCigicuc, implement multivariable approaches applying line (grid) current, capacitor voltage and converter current. The main problem dealt with in the paper is the choice of optimum values of the cost function weighting factors. The values of the factors calculated using the method proposed in the paper are very close to the values represented by the lowest THDi of the line current. Moreover, simulations verifying the equations used in the prediction of controlled values, i.e. line current, capacitor voltage and converter current, are presented. Both simulation and experimental results are presented to verify effectiveness of the investigated control strategies under change of the load (P = 5 kW and 2.5 kW), during transient states, under unbalanced and balanced line voltage.

The paper presents a novel model predictive flux control (MPFC) scheme for three-level inverter-fed sensorless induction motor drive operated in a wide speed region, including field weakening. The novelty of the proposed drive lies in combining in one system a number of new solutions providing important features, among which are: very high dynamics, constant switching frequency, no need to adjust weighting factors in the predictive cost function, adaptive speed and parameter (stator resistance, main inductance) estimation. The theoretical principles of the optimal switching sequence predictive stator flux control (OSS-MPFC) method used are also discussed. The method guarantees constant switching frequency operation of a three-level inverter. For speed estimation, a compensated model reference adaptive system (C-MRAS) was adopted while for IM parameters estimation a Q-MRAS was developed. Simulation and experimental results measured on a 50 kW drive that illustrates operation and performances of the system are presented. The proposed novel solution of a predictive controlled IM drive presents an attractive and complete algorithm/system which only requires the knowledge of nominal IM parameters for proper operation.

Control quality is a crucial issue in modern industry. The engineer’s goal is to set control parameters and assess it constantly in order to maximize the efficiency of the process and watch the condition of actuators. The article describes a number of Control Performance Assessment indexes. They are applied to two tasks: controller tuning and the assessment of the quality of an already tuned control strategy. It presents a comparison between different indexes applied to various structures of the PID control algorithm. Finally the results are compared with Model Predictive Control. The analysis uses well known nonlinear industrial benchmark of a refrigeration system based on vapour compression.

In the paper, a novel control structure based on the fuzzy logic and model predictive control methodologies for an elastic two-mass drive system is proposed. In order to reduce the computational requirements of the classical MPC methodology, the multi parametric programming (MPT) approach is used. The robustness of the system is ensured by implementation of three MPT controllers generated for different operation points and a supervisory fuzzy system. The main goal of the fuzzy system is suitable shaping of the control signal. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is checked in simulation and experimental tests. In order to show the properties of the proposed control structure, a critical comparison with an adaptive classical MPC controller is carried out. Both control structures are tested taking into account the performance and possibility of real-time implementation.

The main goal of this paper is to present a five-level converter with the feature of output voltage boosting capability. Thanks to its modular construction and single DC source usage, 5LCHB converter becomes an important alternative for two-level converters operating with DC-DC converters that use bulky inductors. Furthermore, model predictive control (MPC) method is presented, which allows for boosting output voltage of presented converter while providing three-phase load current control and flying capacitor voltage stabilization. The last section describes a 5kVA laboratory model of five-level hybrid converter interfacing RL load and shows experimental results confirming theoretical analysis derived in previous sections.

The article presents the concept of an intelligent system of multithreaded, hierarchical predictive control of water supply and sewage networks using a parallel computational architecture. The predominant element of the proposed control system over other hitherto functioning systems is the element of predicting future events (MPC model). This feature, combined with the self-learning intelligent control system, not only allows you to react to changes in sensor state, but also anticipate these changes and adjust the system in advance to prepare for predicted situation, which is particularly important in systems with high inertia as extensive water supply and sewage networks. The technologically advanced solutions proposed by the authors, ie the HPC (High Performance Computing) ICT system, including the requesting module allows (by analyzing the space of states and events in real time) to predict future behaviors of individual elements of the system and effectively react to unknown cases, supporting the making of strategic decisions.

W artykule przedstawiono koncepcję inteligentnego systemu wielowątkowego, hierarchicznego sterowania predykcyjnego sieciami wodociągowymi i kanalizacyjnymi z wykorzystaniem równoległej architektury obliczeniowej.

This paper presents a multilevel cascaded H-bridge 5-level converter with boosting capability. The standard solution for boosting voltage in power electronic devices is based on a DC-DC converter with a bulky inductor. However, inductor is a problematic component of a power electronic converter because usually it has to be individually designed and produced for every device and also because its size and weight do not allow for compact construction. This paper presents model predictive control (MPC) method that gives boosting capability for the presented converter. A novel contribution of this paper is the development of a predictive model of the converter and cost function enabling output current control and capacitor voltage balancing.

Controllers based on linear matrix inequalities (LMI) and model predictive control (MPC) both use optimization methods; there are however significant differences between them. In case of LMI controllers, optimization is carried out during controller synthesis, because LMI’s are an optimization tool that requires a linear programming problem being solved. With MPC controllers, however, optimization methods are not used as much in controller synthesis as in controller algorithm operation, to determine optimal control signal values based on the found minimum of the criteria function. A square function is used with boundaries from above and below, which requires a square programming problem, with boundaries for decision variables, being solved. In this paper controller synthesis methods using LMI and MPC are shown, with a focus on the steps that need to be performed, and a comparison of both methods.
