As offshore market in Europe grows faster and faster, new sea areas are being managed and new ideas on how to use the sea potential are being developed. In North Sea, where offshore industry conducts intensive expansion since late 1960s, numerous wind farms, oil and gas platforms and pipelines have been put into operation following extensive research, including geotechnical measurement. Recently, a great number of similar projects is under development in Baltic Sea, inter alia in Polish EEZ, natural conditions of which vary from the North Sea significantly. In this paper, those differences are described together with some solutions to problems thereby arising.

W artykule przedstawiono perspektywy poszukiwań oraz wydobycia węglowodorów w Polsce. Na terenie naszego kraju, oprócz PGNiG SA, prace poszukiwawcze prowadzi szereg firm. Wydobyciem węglowodorów zajmuje się m.in. należący do Grupy Lotos Petrobaltic oraz firma FX Energy. Obszary perspektywiczne do poszukiwania złóż węglowodorów w Polsce są znane, podobnie jak stopień ich rozpoznania i trudności związane z poszukiwaniem i odkrywaniem nowych złóż, wynikające ze złożoności budowy geologicznej. Planuje się, że produkcja gazu ziemnego PGNiG SA osiągnie w 2008 roku 5,5 mld m3 w przeliczeniu na gaz wysokometanowy - wobec 4,3 mld m3 w 2005 roku. Stanie się tak dzięki inwestycjom związanym z zagospodarowaniem udokumentowanych złóż przeznaczonych do eksploatacji oraz intensyfikacji wydobycia ze złóż obecnie eksploatowanych.

The article presents the prospects for survey and extraction of hydrocarbons in Poland. In the area of our country, apart from PGNiG SA, several other companies are conducting exploratory works. Hydrocarbon extraction is the subject of activity, among other things, for Petrobaltic, which belongs to the Lotos Group, and FX Energy. The prospecting areas for exploration of hydrocarbon deposits in Poland are known, as well as the degree of their recognition and difficulties connected with exploration and discovering new deposits, which result from the complexity of the geological structure. The production of natural gas by PGNiG SA is planned to will reach in the year 2008 about 5.5 billion m3 expressed in high-methane gas; in comparison with 4.3 billion m3 in the year 2005. This will be possible due to investments associated with the development of documented deposits meant for exploration and increased extraction from currently explored deposits.
