On determinant of certain pentadiagonal matrix

In this paper, using the LU factorization, the relation between the determinant of a certain pentadiagonal matrix and the determinant of a corresponding tridiagonal matrix will be derived. Moreover, it will be shown that determinant of this special pentadiagonal matrix can be calculated by applying the fourth order homogeneous linear difference equation.

Particular solutions of linear differential equations with periodic coefficients forced by periodic functions are described by quasi-periodic Fourier series. Coefficients of that series are calculated by solving infinite algebraic equations limited to sufficiently high dimensions. In practical computations there is a barrier of a number of equations, which can be solved stemming from a memory and computational power of computers. The paper describes an iterative algorithm, which gives a chance to effectively solve the mention above equations with arbitrary high dimensions. This algorithm is based on a factorization of an infinite matrix, characteristic for periodic systems, onto a product of infinite triangular matrices: lower and upper.

Całki szczególne układów równań różniczkowych liniowych o okresowo zmiennych parametrach są przy wymuszeniach okresowych opisywane szeregami Fouriera funkcji prawie okresowych. Współczynniki tych szeregów wyznacza się z układów równań algebraicznych nieskończenie wymiarowych, ograniczonych do stosownie dużych wymiarów. Przy praktycznych obliczeniach napotyka się ograniczenia liczby równań wynikające z pamięci i mocy obliczeniowej komputerów.
